GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" July 7, 1996 - No. 13

On a good old-fashioned day for football at Narrandera, the Swans ran out winners in 1st& 2nds, but were defeated in Under 18's. In Firsts, we went to an early lead in heavy conditions before Narrandera staged a stirring comeback. Griffith withstood the challenge however and ran out 18-point winners.

The awards were $100 to Mark "JYD" Brown, $50 to Matthew "The girl's favourite" Bunn, $30 to Jamie "anyone for coits" Bennett and $20 to Matthew "Manuel" Cox. The players' player award was also won by Mark Brown. Other good players included Dean "Ginger" Jamieson, Mick "The Terrier" Smith and Trevor "It must be love, love, love" Clarke.
The 2nds played very well in a good team effort. The award winners were $30 to Tony "The Pitbull Terrier" Butcher, $20 to Aron "' Only 3 weeks before Coxy leaves" O'Keefe, $10 to Scott "Are you going to Fatty's 21st Joker?" Collis. The players' player award was won by Adam "Murine" Baulch and the Mugs' Mug by Richard "I still want that Kangaroo" Telfer.
The Under 18's put up a spirited performance before being defeated. It was an improved showing guys., but you still have to get to training and get behind George. The best players were Rodney Savage, Rodney Duncan, Stuart Davies, Marc Forster and Norm Campbell.
I do not have the Netball report this week, but I do know the A Grade were defeated 46-40, as was B Grade 73-18.
In Social news the Games and Cocktails night is on July 20 at Exies Sports Club starting at 8 pm. Please make sure we all attend to make this another great night. In other news anybody with any car batteries they no longer want please see Ian Wade as he recycles these, with the money raised returned to the club. Good to see young Mark Wade playing for the Sydney Swans Little League today. I am sure he will give a good account of himself (we are a little worried about Sam, however).
This week's Players Profile is on Scott Lord.
Nickname: The Shark. Favourite Pastime: Being late for football training, making excuses for not attending football training, doing weekly stock takes, annoying Brett McAlister. Favourite Place: The gutter and nature strip outside Chris and Karen Conlan's house, anywhere there is sheep, anywhere other than football training. Thoughts on Football: Should be more training camps and more card nights, we should try and get more sheep involved in the game. Thoughts on Rowdy's training sessions: No comment - haven't been to enough. Thoughts on Chris Conlan's nature strip: A very pleasant place to be after a hard training camp.
