GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" September 13, 1998 - No. 22

WITH the Seniors and Reserve Grade both defeated by Narrandera in the elimination final, the Under 18's are left to represent the club in this week's first semi final against Leeton-Whitton. Best of luck to them and lets all hope they can advance to the preliminary final next week with a win.
The Seniors were in front for the majority of the match, but did not make the most of their use of the wind in the third quarter and were run over in the final term. The players can be proud of their efforts but must use this season as a stepping stone for 1999. The best players included Mathew "Manuel" Cox, Daniel "Mutley" Tuohey, Matthew "Big O" Olney, Phil "Rowdy" Rowston. Tony "Golly" Mahar and Glenn "Fidget" Vaccari.
The Reserves were behind all day and despite a minor comeback in the final term were defeated. The best players were Paul "Norm" Brasier, Michael "Mad Mick" Claydon, Jason "Jooce" Catanzariti, Kane "MM Bop" Duncan, Owen "O" Brown and Justin "The Big Oaf" Sanson.
The Under 18's in the qualifying final against Turvey Park battled manfully all day after a slow start to get within striking distance at three quarter time but could not finish the game off. The boys battled hard to get their chance this week to have a win and stay alive in the finals. The best payers included Stephen Mitchell, Marc Forster, Michael Duncan, Michael Elliott and Shane Russell.
Many thanks go to Phil Rowston for his efforts with the club this season. The lemon was not as sour as some people suggested and Phil and the players can be proud of their efforts after being touted as bottom three material pre-season. On the social scene do not forget about the 1998 best and fairest presentation night to be held at the Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club on Friday 16th October. Thanks also goes to those people who assisted with the catering last weekend. Your donation of time and effort is appreciated by the committee.
