GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" July 22, 1990 - No. 14

Firstly, congratulations to Les Parish and all the members of the Atco Homes Riverina Football League teams who have completed so successfully over the last few months. We at Griffith are extremely proud that it is our coach who has led these team to victory. Now Les has his sights set on another more important goal - an appointment on the Narrandera Sportsground on September 30!

The game against Coolamon a fortnight ago was a good gutsy effort and proved to the Grasshoppers that our win over there in the first round was no fluke. The win was all the more meritorious as it was achieved without the services of Les for all of the second half. Best players were the whole backline as well as Peter King, Mark O'Connor, Ronnie Roe (4 goals) and the winners of the S.L.I.P. Award donated by Barry Noonan's Statewide Pest Control who were Damien Scott, Gerry Toscan, Ricky Burdett and Darren Prest.

The Seconds were completely demoralised. Missing a few of the older more experienced players due to holidays and availability took its toll but the team as a whole must be a great disappointment to Captain Kirk - you'd swear they weren't in the four, let alone with a chance of playing in the finals! Come on you fellas, this is the first time for decades that we're a chance of having all four sides in the finals - don't be the ones to let the club down - get on the training track and put it in on the paddock on Sundays - it will be all worth it come September. No awards were made for the game but among the better players were Mark Cameron and Dennis Dunn.

The Thirds went on their merry way, and they are definitely going to be the side to beat for the flag, the only thing that could beat them is complacency. Best players were Travis Payne, Scott Collis and Christian Files. This week will be a chance for the boys to redeem themselves from the loss to Leeton in the first round.

The Netballers had an extremely controversial draw and as a result the game was replayed at Narrandera yesterday so interested persons will have to ask the players what the second result was! Best players Karen Donetto and Louise Hawkins. Good luck against Leeton today, girls!

Don't forget the Auction on August 4. Many hands make light work. See Wadey with any donations of goods for sale on commission and ask your family and friends too.

Welcome to Leeton - we're again playing for that ancient trophy whose name escapes me (Glen Kinchie Cup) but apart from that we're a score to settle and traditionally Leeton / Griffith games are tough encounters.
