GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 23, 1992 - No. 18

The Firsts started to look like premiership contenders and played well with still a few players to come back from injury. The side continued on its good form from the Turvey Park match, and against Wagga last week and only needed more concentration to take the points.

The Reserves found the going a bit too tough against the top dogs, but like the Seniors will improve when the players come back. The Under 18's did well and thanks to those boys from the U15s who have finished their season and for making themselves available for the balance of the season to assist with the numbers.

Congratulations to the U13s side, which took the premiership from the previous undefeated Leeton side last Saturday at Narrandera.

The Netball girls like holding their spot in the four in A Grade with a good win over Wagga Tigers 32–7 last Sunday, but unfortunately, the B Grade got close 26-15, but didn’t win.

Chris Conlan came back to form last week in the 1sts at the right end of the season and got plenty of help from Gerard Toscan, even in a stray pair of boots after leaving his in the sunshine at home, and Jamie Bennett. Mention must be made of the performances of youngsters Damien Hill and Brent Hathaway, who have done well in the past couple of weeks.

A couple of old stagers in Darrell Collins and Shane Best stood out in the 2nds along with Mark Cameron, Paul Woolnough and Christian Files. Didn’t have much on thee U18s except that Jamie Reid and Peter Vardanega stood out all day, as did some of the U15s who came up.

Yesterday was the successful furniture auction and thanks go to Barb Wade and Fiona Beverley for all their hard work, plus Terry Bennett, Ron Spencer and Wayne Spencer for all the hard work and all of the other helpers, too many to mention here.

Next Sunday after the Coolamon match is the Vote Count Night and all players and supporters are asked to attend. Also, during the day, Calcutta tickets on the outcome will be sold and your support is needed in this department.
