GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 23, 1998 - No. 19

A terrific day for the Griffith Australian Football Club is the best way to describe the efforts last Sunday. The Seniors rallied against a willing MCUE opposition in inclement conditions to win after being behind at half time. It was a great team effort, and we need to continue with the same level of intensity going into the weeks ahead if we want to keep on winning.

The awards in the Seniors were sponsored by Quiprite and they were as follows: The Ex-Servicemen's Club dinner was won by Dean Jamieson, the Billabong Bottle Shop award was won by Sylvanis "Minno" Tipiloura, the Prendy's BP award was won by Tony "Golly" Mahar, and the Lowes award was won by Matthew "Elephant man" Cox. The McDonalds / Griffith Coaches award was won by Myles "One scotch, one bourbon, one beer" Bunn.

The 2nds fought back after being well behind to record an outstanding and important win. The awards were the Players" Player Mug was won by Tony "Here we go again" Butcher, $30 to Mick "Dead eye dick" Claydon, $20 to Paul "Norm" Brasier and $10 to Matthew "Nails" Neyland.

The Under 18's played well and had a top win to maintain third position on the ladder. The awards were $15 to Peter Hunt, $10 to Michael Duncan and $5 to Matthew Waide.

Unfortunately, the netballers had to forfeit after being unable to get enough numbers. Bad luck to those who tried to make it work this year and thanks for the efforts of those who committed themselves.

Congratulations goes to George Duncan and the premiership winning Under 15's team on their victory in last week's South West District Juniors footy grand final.

On the social scene do not forget the Best & Fairest vote count at the Exies Sports Club next week after the game against Tigers. Also, this year's Presentation Night will be held on Friday 16th October at the Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club.

This week's player profile is on Sylvanis Tipiloura - Nicknames: Minno, Conguppa. Favourite Venue: Tiwi Islands Football Ground. Favourite Food: Big Macs, cheeseburgers and large cokes, Dugong. Likes: Looking at myself in the mirror, heat lamps, hot air, Puma king, sheep, rubbing oil on my skin, trimming my moustache, wearing other people shoes, cleaning up after Frank. This week's game against GGGM is sponsored by the Griffith Past Players and Ernie Wade and we thank them for that.
