GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 25, 1990 - No. 19

Firstly, apologies to the netballers, sorry we couldn't supply a crowd for you but it's a bit hard when you're on the other side of town. Although they went down 27 - 16, they only had 6 players as one of our substitutes was not permitted to play because she didn't have a red skirt. Somehow, I think the 'social' reason for the implementation of the netball has gone out the window - it's about time a bit of 'sportsmanship' prevailed.

The Under 18's proved they are definitely the favourites for the flag this season when they showed great G and D to come from behind in the last quarter to win a fairly tough encounter. It was the first time since they last played the Bulldogs that they have ever been tested and T.B. can be justly proud. Best players were Darren Virago, Christian Files, Dean Owen and Tony Butcher.

The Seconds were never really in the hunt. Hopefully when the finals come, they will have their strongest side on the paddock and will go all the way. Snow (Taylor) played another good captain's game. He was well supported by (Mick) Thommo who had a huge job when General (McAlister) and Bat (Shane Best) had to leave the field as well David Alpen also had a good game even though he's not quite as fit as he would like to be.

The Firsts were behind the eight ball before they started. Missing the complete centre line had a dramatic effect and whilst the replacement players did their best, they were no match for the Bulldogs who were out to 'pluck us good', after the drubbing we gave them in the first round. They certainly did that, they came on to the field baying for blood and walked off at full time licking their chops. However, the Swans will be back, it's still a few weeks before they hit the Narrandera Sportsground and there is no way they will give in with a whimper. Best players were again the entire backline of Ian Geddes, Ricky, Ducky and Mick Murphy, ably supported by Ron Roe, Darrell Collins and Jason Wadley. The S.L.P.I. Award this week was donated by Les Parish and went to Jason Wadley, Darrell Collins, Ricky Burdett, Marty O'Donnell.

Welcome to EWK for our first home Saturday game. Everyone is invited to the Pink Hall (RSL Hall) tonight at 8pm for our Red Faces / No Talent Night. Entries have been pouring in and a great night is assured.
