GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" April 27, 1996 - No. 3

On what was an excellent day for football the Seniors were under pressure all day after kicking 10 behinds before our first goal. Meanwhile the opposition were able to convert their opportunities and establish a comfortable lead by half-time. Despite a third term revival from Griffith, the Tigers ran away to record a big victory in the final term.
I hope Phil's words after the game did not fall on deaf ears, and I am sure our attitude will be much better this week after a few solid nights on the track. The awards were $100 Trevor (can I hold your hand) Clarke, $50 Jamie Bennett, $30 Mark Brown, $20 Gregory Collins. The Players' Player Mug award went to Trevor Clarke.
The Reserves had a hard-earned victory (the first for a long time) against Wagga Tigers. After establishing an early lead by half time, the Tigers fought back to reduce the deficit to less than a goal by 3/4 time. The Swans produced an outstanding last quarter to win the game in a fine team effort. The awards were $30 Kane Duncan, $20 Malcolm Burke, and $10 Steven Serafin. The Players' Player award went to Damien Hill. Other good players included Patrick Dempsey, Brent Hathaway, Ron Irvin and Aaron (Baa Baa) O'Keefe.
The Under 18's fought hard against all the odds with few players and should be proud of their efforts despite not getting the points. The awards went to Rod Duncan, Peter Hunt and Stuart Davies. Others good players included Shermin Anderson and David Savage. Keep trying hard boys.
Griffith were defeated in both Netball games. A Grade was Griffith 34-44. Best players included Katrina Mardell (in only her 2nd game in 10 years) and Lisa Brand in defence. Kirsty Collis was also much improved in centre court. Whilst B Grade were defeated 12-58. Gabby Bennett worked very hard in a losing team.
Tonight, we play Temora at home under lights. All teams need to work hard to ensure success. We at Griffith thank Temora for accepting our invitation to play under lights, combining Junior and Senior games.
