GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" June 27, 1992 - No. 10

The 1sts put in a better performance last week and if it wasn’t for the slow start, might have grabbed the points from Turvey Park. But that was last week and this week we have one of those Saturday matches against Wagga Tigers, who we defeated last time around, and a repeat will keep the supporters happy today.

In last week's match, Jamie Bennett picked up the encouragement award sponsored by JK Signs from the wandering minstrel Joe Agresta, Chris Conlan and new recruit John Kucinic. Gary Argus played another good match, as did Gerry Toscan in this 200th for the Club and hopefully all players come up fit so we can take the stripes off the Tigers today.

The Reserve Grade with a few players missing didn’t put too much opposition to a better Turvey Park. Marty O’Donnell in his first match back for a few weeks was the best for Griffith, along with 'old stager' Michael Thompson and Ashley McCashney. The two non-trainers, Christian Files and Tony Butcher were also mentioned in dispatches.

The Under 18's took the match up to the highly fancied Turvey Park and it was only a couple of late goals by Turvey Park, which saw it take the points. Turvey were slow to start due to the poor lads having to get up early to get to Griffith to play football for the only time this season. I wonder how they would go if they lived at this end and had to travel four times. Damien Hill stood out against the poor Turvey Park lads along with Damien Candusso, Malcolm Burke, Ken O’Driscoll and Michael Reid.

It was good to see the Netball girls get two sides, even though the B Graders had difficulty in getting the ball in the ring, and the A Grade went down by 7 to Turvey. This leaves the A Grade girls in the four on percentage and need to win today to stay in the four.
