A summary of match report, with thanks
While there is no such thing as honourable defeat in the eyes of the Griffith Swans, there were great signs the side was travelling down the right path during their loss to Collingullie-Glenfield Park. It was the effort shown by the Swans keeping them in the clash right until the final siren which saw them fall by 13 points at Exies Oval on Saturday. "I think it is important to know that we still didn't win," coach Adrian Pavese said. "We are not massive on honourable losses, but it was much-improved performance compared to the last time we played them, and they are the benchmark. "We take a lot of confidence that we are on the right path."

The Swans found themselves down by 14 points going into the first break but used the breeze to their advantage in the second to take a six-point lead into the main break. Collingullie came out firing in the third quarter to see them kick five unanswered goals and head into the final term with a 28-point lead. It took until the 15-minute mark in the last quarter for the Swans to hit the scoreboard in the second half when Heath Northey snapped one home. Swans' captain James Toscan kicked his second of the game to reduce the lead to 14 points, but the side was only able to kick another behind before the final siren sounded.
Pavese was pleased with the effort his side showed throughout the game. "The start of the week to lose four of our premier players even though we hoped Grigga (Will Griggs) might have gotten up, but we just kept "cracking" which I enjoyed," he said. Pavese was full of praise for one of the younger players who was able to hold a key Demon down to just two goals. "Lucas Conlan was wonderful against Geppert and then going forward he probably should have had a couple of goals late in the game," he said. "He was in the magazine today as the rising star and I think he proved it to everyone today and like a typical young bloke he is inside saying he didn't have a good game."

The coach also praised the performance of some of his older heads in Heath Northey, Ben King and Guy Orton for standing up in the absence of Griggs and Jordan Iudica. (By Liam Warren - The Area News, Monday July 31, 2017).
