GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" April 2, 2006 - No. 1

Big time footy, how we've missed you and we are looking towards 2006 with great confidence. During the off season we signed a new coach in Luke McLean and he is proving to be an excellent choice. He has also been appointed the MIA AFL Development Officer and we are confident that his presence in schools etc. will have a great flow on effect.
Joining him at the Club this season from Geelong is Sam Hickleton and Daniel O'Connor. From S.A. we welcome Nathan Petersen-Gray and Tom Morgan and in no particular order we are pleased to welcome on board the following players - some returning and some playing for us for the first time. Daniel Meade, Joel Brown, Natan Kite, Brendan Giason, Michael Harris, Adam Huskins, Larry Cavallo, Nick McCarthey, Garry Minchin, Bruno Sergi, Roy and Joey Agresta, Brett Piva and David Rauluni. If I've missed anyone else I apologise. There may be some who register after these notes go in - if so you'll get a mention next week!
Many thanks to our sponsors, the Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club for their continued support. Once again, we have associate sponsors in McDonalds who are sponsoring in the three grades, as are Dredge Machinery and 2RG sponsors, the Clock and WIN Television (Griffith), the Scoreboard. Many, many thanks to all those sponsors and those who have advertising around the ground and others who are game sponsors, we couldn't do without you, and we hope that you will be able to attend our special Sponsor's Day next Saturday at our first home game.
Again, we'll be having weekly awards for each grade, and we need to thank the following businesses for their continued support: Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club, Hall's Hanwood Butchery, McDonalds (3 grades), Auto Pro, Fred & Rod McNabb, Video Ezy, Enbee for Hair, and Casella Wines (2 grades).
Once again, the Club will have four teams in the Netball competition with A, B, C grade and Juniors. The Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club has taken over as major sponsor for the next five years by proving the finance for all 4 grades for their new uniforms/body suits. They have good numbers for all grades which should auger well for another great season. This year we have gained Ros Fraser as coach of the 'A' grade, and she brings with her a wealth of knowledge and we are hopeful that it will filter through the other grades and are looking for big things from them - particularly in their new uniforms. Their weekly awards will be supplied by The Athletes' Foot, Enbee for Hair, Eclipse the Essential Spa and McDonalds and again their support of the girls is appreciated
Again, there are many businesses and individuals that have agreed to be game sponsors for the Seniors and today's sponsors is South Pacific Seeds and we thank them for their support. They or one of their representatives will be choosing the Senior awards today.
Since the end of last season, we have seen the passing of many stalwarts and past players of the Club and prior to next week's game we will have a minute's silence in their memory.
Today we start the season with the 'local derby' against archrivals, the Crows and it will be a 'battle of the birds'. No doubt there will be plenty of feathers flying. After the game it's back to the Sporties. Let's start the season with a clean sweep.

Up The Swans.
