GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" April 10, 2004 - No. 1
Today is the day we've looked forward to for 35 years. The unfurling of the first grade Premiership Flag.
We've had a changing of the guard at the top and George Duncan is now President and Ian Wade has stepped down to Vice President with Ffiona Beverley again Secretary and Damien Scott has hold of the purse strings.
We have been given a big Swannies welcome to our new coach Adrian Burns, a former Essendon and St. Kilda player. Adrian comes to us from Sale where he coached last year and he and his wife Kristy and daughter Ebony and new son Jesse (who was born in Griffith) are settling in well.
We've also gained the services of Shane Pound (Coleambally), Rodney Male (Barellan), Matthew Scott (Temora), Mark Smith (Coreen Daysdale United), Kim Jenkins (Tasmania), Nick Broad & Mitch Hogg (WA), and welcome to the first time Aussie Rules players Jamie Codemo and Harpreet Singh (Wiki) and welcome back to Simon McClure.
Many thanks to our major sponsor, the Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club for their continued support. Once again we have associate sponsors in McDonalds who are sponsoring the three grades as are Dredge Machinery with Watertek sponsoring the warm up tops. Footy Focus joins this year for the first time and will be sponsoring the shorts. Many, many thanks to all those sponsors and those who have advertising signs around the ground and those who are game sponsors, we couldn't do it without you. Again we'll be having weekly awards for each grade and we need to thank the following businesses for their continued support: Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club, Snuggle In, Autopro, McDonalds (3 grades), Ron's Auto One, Fred & Rod McNabb, Nufarm, Video Ezy, and Enbee for Hair. There could be others and we will acknowledge them each week in the notes.
Once again the Club will have four teams in the Netball with A, B, & C Grade being sponsored by Lyn & Ken Mason from the Griffith Newsagency and the Juniors by Danny's Store.
Today's game sponsor is Evans Sport Store and we thank them for their support. For those that may not know, as from the second last game last year, we are unable to use the facilities of the Sports Club due to Public Liability issues, however, the old kiosk has been spruced up and facilities added there and a variety of food is available there and you are permitted to take anything you buy there into the Sports Club to consume it if you so desire.
Just as for the past two years we start the season with a game against MCUE but this year, we go to them twice. Good for them to get the longest trip of the season over and done with early. Let's start the season with a clean sweep. Up The Swans!
