GRIFFITH NOTES: "The Aussie Ruler" September 13, 1970 - No. 22
By Swan: Swan supporters had an unhappy day at Ganmain last Sunday when both the Thirds and Seconds went down by big margins and some considerable improvements will be needed if both teams are to repeat last year's premiership wins.
The earlier start at 10 a.m. in the Third XVIII game obviously was somewhat of a surprise to both teams as neither had a full complement of players when they ran out at 10 o'clock.
The injury in the first five minutes to star rover, "Chatter" Greedy further upset our players and they never really settled down. Narrandera, however, played grand football and looked a premiership team. Lindsay McKinnon, Garry Parslow and Greg Thompson were possibly our most prominent players.
Our Seconds turned on a much better showing and had a winning chance at three quarter time but had no answer to Turvey Park's strong finish. Denis Tyndall, Rob Taylor, Ray "Stab Kick" Smith and David Hall were our best.
Our three teams will be in action today. All meet formidable opposition, but the players have trained well in the past week and with a little luck we should have a team or two in the Grand Final next weekend.
