Media report - By Jimmy Meiklejohn: Griffith is all but certain to avoid the wooden spoon having emerged three-point victors in a thrilling finish against Leeton-Whitton. The Crows started the game the better of the two sides and they found themselves up by nine points at the main break. But Griffith hit the lead in the latter stages of the third term, and they were then able to hold them to claim a 11.9 (75) to 1-.12 (72) victory, their second of the season.
It's been a tough season for the Swans having been on the receiving end of six losses of 100 points or more. While results haven't gone their way, Griffith coach Greg Dreyer noted his side had failed to throw in the towel. Having continued to put in the hard work in, he was thrilled they were able to be on the receiving end of some reward for their efforts.

"It was two young teams just having a crack today and it was a nice reward for the boys," Dreyer said. "They beat us over there, but it was nice to have a win here and I'm just happy they got the result to be honest. "It was good to see blokes like Mason Rosengreen, Bailey Morrissey, Luke DeMamiel string four quarters together and get reward for effort. "These blokes turn up every week for us and have a crack, we're struggling with depth at the moment. "I've said to them a few times this year, if we can keep at it and don't give up then good things will come out of the year. "It's all experience and you learn from it, good things will come, we've just got to be patient and we'll be back.

Having grabbed the lead in the latter stages of the third term, Dreyer noted a late goal to the Crows resulted in a nail biting final five minutes of the contest. "They were in front for most of the day," he said. "In the last quarter we got ourselves out by eight points, but they kicked one fairly late so that the last five minutes it was a close game. "We got it in the end which was nice."
Bailey Morrissey finished with five goals while Tom Trevaskis, Luke DeMamiel, Sam Foley, Mason Rosengreen and Cooper Purtill all played starring roles in the win. Dreyer credited Morrissey's performance noting that he did the majority of his scoring in the early stages of the contest. "He kicked three in the first quarter," he said. " I think he was a bit relieved more than anything and he got himself in the right spot. "It was a bit scrappy obviously, but it was good to play some basic footy and execute." Media report - By Liam Warren:  There was nothing to separate Leeton Whitton from their arch rivals Griffith, but it was the Swans who were able to take the points in a come-from-behind win at Exies Oval. It was always going to be a close contest between the two sides striving to avoid the bottom-placed finish, and it was the Crows who were able to take a three-point lead into the first change.
The visitors continued to build their lead after they kicked three goals to two in the second quarter to take a nine-point lead into halftime, which would be the biggest margin between the two sides all afternoon. The home side were able to hit back with three goals to one after the main break to get out to a three-point lead, and that would be the final margin between the two sides as well, with Griffith coming away with a 11.9 (75) to 10.12 (72) victory.
Crows coach Lucas Meline, who finished the game with four goals, felt the game played out how they expected, with two young side battling it out. "Pretty close for the majority of the game, we probably had more time in front, but there were never more than two goals in it," he said. "We knew it was going to be a tight contest, and it was. Both sides are very young, and it probably showed a bit out there, but Griffith were able to get the lead in the last, and it looked like they probably wanted it a bit more across the board."
Meline was pleased to see that the majority of the side were able to impact the game in one way or another and he hopes that they can now see that is the best way for his side to play. "We played really good football for a lot of the game than we have in the past." he said. "We probably improved our consistency. We are a team that is starting to realise that if everyone can participate and play a solid role, we can play good football. "I think at the moment we are replying on a few blokes to do a bit too much, whereas if we get a consistent contribution from everyone on the field, it will go a long way to help our side out."
With the side now resigned to the fact they will finish last, the Crows will now head to Mangoplah to start the last fortnight of the season with nothing to lose. "We know they can play good football and are quite a physical side, so this week is just about preparing the boys for that and getting into the right mindset to be really prepared to crack in,' he said. "We don't have too much to lose for the next two weeks, so hopefully we can go over with the right mindset and play some good football." Source - The Irrigator, Saturday August 8, 2025.
