Media report - by Jimmy Meiklejohn: Coolamon put their scoring prowess on show as they secured a 159-point win against Griffith.
The Hoppers started their attentions early, booting eight unanswered goals in a dominant opening term at Exies Oval. Another four unanswered goals in the second quarter had Coolamon ahead by 79 points at the main break. A strong 10-goal third term set up what ultimately resulted in a 26.19 (175) to 2.4 (16) win for the Hoppers.
Coolamon coach Gavin McMahon was delighted with the even spread of contributors in their big win over the Swans. "It was good to see them really share the load among each other," McMahon said. "You probably saw from the spread of goal scorers, and it was a nice even spread across the board today, which was really pleasing."
McMahon agreed it was pleasing to have so many avenues to goal with a range of different players more than capable of hitting the scoreboard. "Nick (Buchanan) got plenty of looks at it as normal," he said. "But it was nice that we were able to work on different ways of entering our forward 50 and getting some shots on goal." Joe Redfern, Cooper McKelvie, Ben Hodgson and Adian Ledson all played key roles in Coolamon's big win, their eight victories of the season. Source - The Daily Advertiser, Wed July 9, 2025.
Media report - by Liam Warren: It was another nightmare afternoon for the Griffith Swans as they fell to their third 150-point-plus defeat for the season after playing host to Coolamon. The Hoppers were able to make a strong start as they kicked eight goals to none in the opening term, as the Swans were limited to just a single point. "Just being able to stop the momentum is a big part of the footy," said assistant coach Sam Foley. "If they kick four or five goals, we haven't been able to get a stop on them and get a goal back or slow them down. It just seems to be four or five becomes nine or 10, and it keeps rolling, which makes it hard."
The visitors kicked six unanswered goals in the second term to get out to a 79-point lead at the main break, and the day went from bad to worse with Jordan Crowe not returning after halftime after hyper-extending his knee. It would be 17-straight goals for the Hoppers before Griffith finally was able to kick their first major when Mason Rosengreen slotted one home after a 50-metre penalty.
Coolamon answered straight back and kicked five straight heading into three quarter time, and the Swans also had to contend with Lachlan Wallace getting a yellow card and another knee injury, this time to Bailey Morrissey. The Swans were left with no rotations from the midway point of the final quarter, when Reece Matheson picking up a knock, and while Kahlan Spencer kicked the Swans second, the Rovers continued to come away with a 26.19 (175) to 2.4 (16) victory. It means Coolamon continues to be a side that Griffith can't get a handle on.
"I think the effort was there, but the talent probably not so much," he (Foley) said. The more experienced bodies definitely had the better of us today. It just something we have to learn from, they have a good side, and they always seem to have the wood over us, especially over the past two or three years."
