A summary of match report, with thanks
The Griffith Swans came agonisingly close to their first win of the Riverina Football League season, going down to Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes by only three points. Swans coach Gerard Toscan said his players were gutted by the loss but would try to focus on the highlights that got them to the threshold of their maiden 2008 win. "We could have iced it in the third quarter, but we kicked 1.9," Toscan said.

"When we came off the ground, we said we needed to press and we did - we had 18 inside 50s in the last quarter, compared to seven for them. With 20 behinds, the Swans wasted too many chances, but Toscan had nothing but praise for some of his standout players.

"Mick Duncan was our best best on the day and Jono Gastin was on fire across half-back, and Jack Geddes and Dean Catanzariti and Craig Conlan at full-forward all had solid games. Conlan and Kris Duncan found their way to goal on more than one occasion.
