A summary of match report, with thanks
The Griffith Swans season has gone from bad to worse after a dismal performance against the Leeton-Whitton Crows in Leeton on Saturday, when the home team more than doubled Griffith's score. While the tied score at quarter time suggested it would be a competitive game, it didn't take long for Crows too outrun and outscore the Swans in a dominant second quarter, the half-time score 47-14.

The margin only widened further in the third quarter, with Leeton-Whitton scoring three goals to Griffith's one, and while the Swans' performance improved in the final quarter of the game, it proved to be nowhere near enough. Swans coach Matt Noonan said a failure to take opportunities proved costly to his team. "It wasn't the result we wanted, but it panned out that way in the end, but not through lack of trying on our part," he said. Noonan said the side needed to take more advantage of having the wind at their backs in the first quarter.

"We didn't take our opportunities when we had the wind advantage, but Leeton did," he said. Noonan mentioned Shaun Curran, Jeff Mickan, Brett Owen and James Fallon as standout players in the game. (By Nick Pearson - The Area News, Monday July 13, 2009).
