A summary of match reports, with thanks
Narrandera has already eclipsed last year's win tally at the halfway mark of the season after outlasting a plucky Griffith by 14 points at Narrandera Sportsground on Saturday. The 13.8 (86) to 10.12 (72) win was the sixth-placed Eagles' third win of the season after picking up two victories last year. All three have come against sides below them on the ladder, but Narrandera coach Shaun Brooker is relatively pleased with the progress. "It was ugly, but we won. We're happy with that," he said. "We're moving in the right direction. We've still got a lot of work to do, but they're committed to the cause. "At the halfway mark of the season to have three wins is good, but there's still a long way to go. "I think they're starting to play to their rolls better, our fitness is a lot better. We're slowly ticking a few boxes." Luke McKay was again brilliant for the Eagles, while the ruck contest between Brad Hutchison and Nathan Richards was a highlight. James Toscan kicked six goals for Griffith.
(By Jon Tuxworth - The Daily Advertiser, Monday June 20, 2022).
In an entertaining round nine contest, the Narrandera Eagles led 4.1 (25) to Griffith Swans 3.3 (21) after one quarter before taking a 7.4 (46) to 5.7 (37) lead into the main break. A five-goal third term gave the Eagles some breathing space when going ahead by 27 points at three quarter time before the home side eventually held on for a 14-point win. Luke McKay was adjudged best on the ground for the home side. McKay, who has been one of the Eagles best in 2022, said his side entered Saturday's game with the belief they could beat Griffith, although he admitted the game itself was "messy". "Against Griffith, we really spoke about needing to win all week, and going into it; it was one we really wanted to win," McKay said. "We put a little bit of expectation on ourselves to beat Griffith, and it was messy, but I was happy we won. "Plus, you really have to win messy sometimes and learn how to win tough games like that. "We felt the pressure, and credit to Griffith, because they did really well to keep coming back. "We would kick away, and they would come back, but in the end, we did well to beat them." McKay said the Shaun Brooker-led side wouldn't be resting on their laurels either, or he wanted to see Narrandera push for a final position in the second half of the season.
