A summary of match report, with thanks
Swans captain-coach Guy Orton has lashed out at a lack of hunger in his players after they were handed yet another flogging, this time by Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong yesterday. A seven-goal first quarter from the Lions set up an easy 91-point victory at Exies Oval – just a week after Griffith’s season showed signs of life in a vastly improved performance against runaway leaders Coolamon. It took until the second term for the Swans to register a score and they were blown away again after half-time as GGGM piled on nine goals to four.

Orton said it was a continued struggle to motivate the player's given Griffith is no chance for RFL finals – and he admitted some “(didn’t) seem to be upset at all” with the heavy loss. “It’d depressing but what can you do?

To them it’s just another week, another game of footy,” he said.

“For the people who have been there, played finals, won a flag – they know how much work it takes. “The normal blokes stood up and had a go, but I don’t know...it really is hard to go from last week’s performance to this. “There were some guys that just didn’t attack the footy like they normally would, and those guys need to understand what it takes to get there.

“You’ve got to be at your best every week – you can’t have good game one week and not turn up the next.”
Orton pointed to the likes of teenage utility Tom Shannon, who has only recently been blooded into first grade but was Griffith’s best yesterday, as an example of how he wants his younger players to go about their football. “He’s wanting to improve his footy, he’s a kid that’s got potential and obviously belongs in the seniors, no doubt,” he said.

“There’s Josh Foley, who’s just hard at the footy. “We’ve got some good young kids coming through but it’s just about getting them to understand… I wasn’t brought up to play footy just for fun.”
The Lions were helped by a near gale-force wind in the first quarter, but Orton said his side wasn’t able to use it to their advantage when they had it. Veterans Mick Duncan and Trevor Richards were Griffith’s only multiple goalkickers.
