 GRIFFITH CLUB NOTES

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" April 6, 1997 - No. 1

The 1997 season has finally arrived, and I would like to take the opportunity to welcome the new senior coach to the club Anthony Pavey. Anthony comes to Griffith with an imposing coaching record, and we all hope that in 1997 the Swans can keep the winning sequence going.
Congratulations also go to our Reserves and Under 18's coaches, Craig Bretherton and George Duncan, and we all hope your respective teams will improve on their 1996 efforts.
The Club would like to welcome all new players for the 1997 season, as well as those players going around again this year. We wish you all the best of luck for the season.
Congratulations from the off-season go to Greg Collins and Karen Brown on their engagement and Gary Argus and Peta Bennett on their wedding.
Today we make the trip to the RAAF base to meet the newly amalgamated North Wagga-RAAF team. I am sure the opposition will be pumped up for a big first up effort, but I know our guys are aware of the importance of winning the early games. Let's make sure we do win and teach the new blokes the song after the game.
The Player Profile will start off with Matthew Kenny.

A successful start to the season with all three football grades winning and the A Grade netball also enjoyed success. The Seniors started the season in fine fashion with a big win. GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 17, 1997 - No. 20

In a tough, hard fought encounter the Seniors were defeated by a very determined Turvey Park outfit. It was a top game of football with neither side prepared to give in. Perhaps a few crucial turnovers were the difference between winning and losing. The non-contracted players awards were $130 Tony 'Cracker' Mahar, $70 Danny '000' Baxter, $50 Damien 'Superboot' Scott, $30 Jason 'Jockey' Magoci and $20 Trevor 'Truck' Clarke. The McDonalds Coaches award was won by Dean 'Plugger' Jamieson.
In a very good team effort effort the Reserves recorded an excellent win. The Bertoldos Bakery best player awards were $30 to Adam 'Portugese' Baulch, $20 to Matthew 'Terrior' Hosking and $10 Matthew 'Special K' Kenny. The Players' Player awards to Danny 'Mutley' Tuohey and the Mugs' Mug went to Malcolm 'Mallee' Burke. The McDonalds/Griffith Coaches award was won by Brendan 'Benny' Giason.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 24, 1997 - No. 21

I would like to mention first of all for everyone's information that last week's Record notes were submitted on the Monday prior to the weekend game. It is apparent that there was a problem at the printing end, and not the football club, end of story (last week's notes appear on page 29).
In a tough encounter in the Seniors a second quarter fade out was costly as Tigers took advantage of our errors and had a comfortable half time lead. We must minimise our turnovers and play a full 100 minutes if we want to successfully compete with better sides. The non-contracted players awards were $130 Tony 'I'm still going on the football trip' Mahar, $70 Danny '000' Baxter, $50 Greg 'Buddha' Collins, $30 Chris 'Strings' Conlan and $20 Dean 'Ian Baker-Finch' Jamieson. Other good players included Graeme 'Tiger' Woods and Marcus 'Cascade' Simpson.
Congratulations go to Greg Dreyer who completed his 150th Senior game for the Club last weekend. Let's have a win today and give Grumpy a reason to celebrate this milestone tonight.
The Reserves were outpointed in the first half by a fired-up Wagga Tigers and could not bridge the gap. The guys have to realise that to win the big games we must play 100 minutes of hard football. The Bertoldo's Bakery best player awards were $30 to Trent 'Disco' Demarco, $20 to Kane 'Sugar' Duncan and $10 Dominic 'Hooter' Skehan. The Players' Player awards to Peter 'Zinger' Steer and the Mugs' Mug went to Brett 'Swampy' Davis. The McDonalds/Griffith Coaches award was won by Stuart 'Sleepy' Mortlock.
The Under 18's were gallant in defeat against strong opposition. Thanks to those Under 15 players who backed up from the day before. The best players were David Savage, Simon Irons, Paul Kite, Stuart Davies and Michael Elliott.
In the Netball A Grade had a good win, while B Grade unfortunately had to forfeit.
Congratulations on their respective engagements goes to Tony Mahar & Sarah Richards, and Melissa Daniher & Wayne Bodycott. I wonder who will be the next, Dean? Congrats goes to the Under 15's who were convincing winners of their grand final in the SWJFL last week.

Another close game in the Seniors against GGGM with Griffith not capitalising on their use of the wind in the final quarter being the main difference. The Under 18's had a good win and need to win again today to finish in the top five. The best players were Luke Irons, Matthew Neyland, Michael Tull, David Dunn and Michael Elliott.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" September 6, 1997 - No. 23

The Seniors were sluggish all day against a very determined and fired up (Whitton-Leeton) opposition. Unfortunately, the result went against us' but fortunately it had no impact on our position in the final five. Today we must improve our intensity if we want to remain in the final series beyond this week. The non-contracted players awards were $130 to Brett "Swampy" Davis, $70 to Wayne "Illusions" Bodycott, $50 to Greg "Beeper" Collins, $30 to Damien "Tyson" Scott and $20 to Matthew "Kernaghan" Bunn.

The players' player award went to Trent "Cool" Demarco and the Mugs' Mug went to Glen "Rednut" Collis.
The Under 18's battled hard but could not break the back of a determined opposition. Unfortunately, the loss put them out of the top five for one of the few times this season. Bad luck guys. Congratulations on your effort this year, it was a vast improvement in 1996. The best players were Michael Duncan, Michael Tull, Michael Elliott, Shane Russell and Rodney Simpkin. Many thanks must go to George Duncan, Bill Kite and Graham Olney for their tremendous support of the Under 18's throughout the season.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" September 13, 1997 - No. 24

The Seniors started well but were overwhelmed by a barnstorming 10 goal second term by Temora. This left the boys playing catch up football for the rest of the day, and although they narrowed the margin, the end result was a loss and the end of the season. The better players included Anthony and Phil Pavey, Danny Baxter and Brett Davis. Congratulations also goes to Gary Argus on kicking his 100th goal for the season.
Today the 2nds battle it out for a spot in the Grand Final so best goes to those involved.
