 GRIFFITH CLUB NOTES

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" April 12, 1992 - No. 1

Another year and another football season but this one aren’t the same as all the others.

The RFL has joined (or forced into) with the NSWAFL and while we still having all the byes in the competition, thinking the VCFL Championships would be on the agenda, hopefully the year will run smoothly.

Griffith has lost arguably the best Ambassador for the game in many years Les Parish, and after some hick-ups, former Lavington player Matthew McGuirk has taken over the reins. Premiership coach Terry Bennett has taken the step up from the U18s and will guide the Reserves, while the new man in town Ted McKeown will coach the youngsters.

Like all clubs, the Swans have lost and gained a few, and today’s match will tell us if we have filled the gaps.

To all players, and clubs the Swans committee hopes for an injury free season and that the football be played in a sporting manner.

The committee would like to thank the ladies around the club who have been able to come up with two netball sides.

Good luck to all sides in the competition.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" April 26, 1992 - No. 2

Not the start to the football season against Turvey Park the Griffith Swans were looking for, but there were some glimpses that better things are on the way. It is unfortunate that the club is having problems in raising an Under 18 side and would like to thank Turvey Park for lending us players so that the minimum number could be put on the ground and saved the forfeit.

To the 11 lads who got out of bed early and travelled to Wagga, thanks very much for the effort and hopefully we can raise a side for today's match against Leeton. Both the committee and the coach Ted McKeown have been approaching players to make up the numbers and today could see a full side on the paddock.

The Reserve graders also went down, but it only needed a little bit of luck, and they could have been well in the match. Ian Cohen was named captain and played a good game at fullback, while the non-trainer Christian Files got plenty of kicks in the middle. Others to show out were Brent Hathaway, Jamie and Michael Reid, and Paul Crowe.

The Seniors found that fitness is what is required to win matches but forgot it very soon after with numbers down at training. Their side was still in the match halfway through the third quarter, but when the legs ran out and Turvey had an easy win. Chris Conlan was the best for the Swans and took the top award donated by Quiprite, while Jamie Bennett, Shane Ruyg and Ricky Burdett were also amongst the best. Welcome to the club to Gary Argus, the new recruit from Darwin, and he showed last round that he will be a good player for the club.

The Netball girls have come up with two sides this season and thanks again goes to those girls who travelled to Wagga. Unfortunately, both sides kept up the tradition for the day and lost, but like the football side, it is still early days.

Today we must meet our neighbours at Leeton and with a bit more application, we are hoping this is the first of many wins this season.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" May 3, 1992 - No. 3

The Griffith Swans finally found their way to the winning side of the ledger with two good wins over Leeton last week. While the Seniors had a win, the underdone Leeton side pushed the boys all the way in what turned out to be a good display from both sides. The Reserves had it a bit easy against Leeton and will not be able to take it easy against Wagga today.  Unfortunately, the Netball girls went down in both matches, but it was good to see two full sides travel for the matches. The Under 18's are still a bit of a problem and the club forfeited for probably the first time since Griffith started playing (Third Grade) football, but today we should see a full squad on the paddock after some hard work by coach Ted McKeown.

The First Grade started slowly last week and went out of the match in the third quarter but came home with a wet sail to kick eight goals in the last quarter to win easily. Winners of the awards, sponsored by Les Wilesmith Caltex were Gerard Toscan, first gamer Scott Angrove, Greg Collins and Paul Young.

Best for the Seconds were Brad Hammond with 10 goals, Christian Files, who will kill them when he starts training every night, Jim Shannon and another new player Matthew Mamouney.

Welcome to Wagga today and hopefully the sides can keep up the winning way, but whichever way it goes, we will work out what was right or wrong, over a beer in the clubhouse after the match.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" May 10, 1992 - No. 4

One lick of the ice cream doesn't make a meal, and the same goes for a good win in the football season. The Senior players did a brilliant job on the Wagga Tigers to get the points, but like Captain Cook finding Australia - it's history.

Today we start again against Coolamon and another win at home is what we need before heading off into the wild blue yonder for two away games in the next two rounds. The rangy Greg Collins hasn't put a foot wrong in two weeks and was adjudged best on the ground for the two games in succession and took out the incentive award donated by Leo Barry. Colin Cassidy wasn't far behind in the centre and lived up to the promise by Les Parish that if he got himself fit this year, he would make it. David Gee was also in the money with a good match and Jamie Bennett picked up the second award for his non-stop running game all day. Big Matthew McGuirk put some 'raidite' on his hands and hung on to the ball to kick seven goals at full forward.

In the Reserves, soccer convert Dom Testoni looked as though he had been using his hands all of his life and marked well to win the best on ground. Christian Files came up with his third second best on ground in as many matches and it looks as though the recent engagement to Kelly has lifted his game. Others to show out were Wayne Tyndall, Ian Cohen and Paul Woolnough.

Good to see 30 players at the ground looking for a run in the Under 18's and the boys put in a great show for their first hit out together. Brent Hathaway played well in the ruck and was well backed up by Paul Rovere, Brett Miller, Angus Patterson and Michael Reid. If this sort of numbers turns up today, then a win against Coolamon is on the cards.

The Netball girls haven't been able to get on the winning list to date and the B Graders went down to Wagga 38-8, while the A Grade put up a better performance to lose 28-23 and a win is just around the corner.

Today we welcome Coolamon to the club and unfortunately for supporters it is the last home game until we met Ganmain on June 14.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" May 16, 1992 - No. 5

Five minutes on and 15 minutes off was the setting against Coolamon last week and we were lucky to come away with a draw. Coach Matthew McGuirk hit it on the head after the match when he said that players not turning up for training was one of the problems. Hopefully, this week we got a full complement during the week in preparation for the match today against EWK. Paul Young was one of the better movers on the ground, but his partner on the half back line Owen Brown who never stops trying took out the encouragement award sponsored by Martin and Webb. Others to get the money were David Gee, Colin Cassidy and Jamie Bennett.

Congratulations to Chris Conlan who was named among the best in the NSW side which went down to Queensland as the lead-up match to the State of Origin.

Tony DiPastena and Domonic Spataro made their presence felt in the Reserve Grade match against Coolamon. Both players are new to the club from down Victoria way and Tony showed he will be an asset with six goals in a best on ground display, while Domonic did well on the backline. Welcome to the club boys and we hope you stay in Griffith is a good one.

Reserve graders came back from 3 goals down at the last chance to win by 26 points in a good effort. Dom Testoni continued on from last week, as did fullback Ian Cohen, Matthew Mamouney and Wayne Tyndall.

With a week’s training under the belt, the U18 side came up with the goods and had a win over Coolamon to get on the board on the plus side of the points. Peter Vardanega was the standout player and won the Pizza from the Casablanca, while Brent Hathaway, Malcolm Burke and Paul Rovere also played well.

Sorry to say in the hassle and bustle of the after-game activities I forgot to get the netball information, but I do know that both sides had their first win of the season which will set them up two good matches against EWK today.

A reminder to all players and supporters about the Peter Blackman Benefit, where Michael Whitney will be the guest speaker at the Ex-Servicemens Club on May 30. Peter needs the assistance so anyone who can make it, tickets are available at the sponsor’s front desk.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" May 30, 1992 - No. 6

At long last, the Griffith Swans can perform where they do it best - at the Ex-Servicemen's Oval. The Club has been missing from home for the past five weeks and what a game to come home to, Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong.
The sides performed reasonably well against Narrandera in the last round, but again last week there was another bye and both sides today are virtually starting the season in earnest.
With the byes out of the road, it is all systems go until the finals with football on every week.
In the Narrandera Senior Grade match, Griffith battled hard in the first three quarters to throw off the shackles of the Eagles but got it together in the last quarter to kick eight goals and get a win.

Damien Scott won the bulk of the money in the Encouragement Award, sponsored by Shane Best Painters, in front of Colin Cassidy, Owen Brown and evergreen Ian Geddes.
The Reserves had a big win over Narrandera to hold onto fourth position on the ladder, equal to Turvey Park. Tony Butcher had a day out with seven goals, and it was good to see Mexican import Choko get best on ground. Others to show out were Matthew Mamouney and Christian Files.
The Under 18's didn't have the best of days, going down to Narrandera by a big margin and it was the usual players who stood out. Michael Reid, Damien Hill, Peter Vardanega and Malcolm Burke all stood out and with a few games under the belt, it would be expected to see others amongst these names.
The netball girls had another win in A Grade and now find themselves in the four, but the B Graders seem to be slackening off with numbers.
Today is the biggest for the season for the Swans so far, so let's all get behind Matthew McGuirk and all the players and send the Lions home with their tails between their legs.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" June 21, 1992 - No. 9

A day to forget for the Griffith side last week against Ganmain-GGM when we were ferociously thrashed, but there are bigger and better things on the horizon today when we meet Turvey Park. The match last week showed us a thing or two as to what has to be done if we are to be grand finalists again this year and there is no better time to start than today. Gary Argus worked hard all day and irrespective what you read in the papers, was the best on ground for Griffith, while Greg Dreyer and Ricky Burdett held down the backline when Ian Geddes only lasted five minutes. Scott Angrove did well on the ball and Gerry Toscan, who incidentally is taking the field for his 200th today, went well at centre halfback. Matty McGuirk has had the boys training well this week and supporters can expect a better performance than last weeks, but we will have to think about that as they trained well last week too.

The 2nds knocked off the top side on the ladder in what was arguably one of the best 2nds matches seen at the Ex-Servicemen's Oval for some time. Ian Cohen's talked his way into the best players and got some kicks along the way. Travis Payne didn't say too much but still made it as did Rhett Heffernan and Joe Agresta. A win today could take us equal top depending on what happens between and Wagga and Ganmain-GGM.

The Under 18's were well in the match for quite a while before losing to Ganmain-GGM, but coach Ted McKeown must be pleased with the improvement each week. Peter Vardanega, Malcolm Burke and Paul Rovere were among the best and not far behind were Mark Henderson, Kenny O'Driscoll and Brett Miller.

The Netballers have risen to 3rd spot on the ladder with a good win over Ganmain-GGM, 28-16.

Today the Swans start again in its quest for the flag and let's face it players, we should have beaten today's mob the first time around on their hollowed (according to Ross Ingram) Maher Oval.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" June 27, 1992 - No. 10

The 1sts put in a better performance last week and if it wasn’t for the slow start, might have grabbed the points from Turvey Park. But that was last week and this week we have one of those Saturday matches against Wagga Tigers, who we defeated last time around, and a repeat will keep the supporters happy today.

In last week's match, Jamie Bennett picked up the encouragement award sponsored by JK Signs from the wandering minstrel Joe Agresta, Chris Conlan and new recruit John Kucinic. Gary Argus played another good match, as did Gerry Toscan in this 200th for the Club and hopefully all players come up fit so we can take the stripes off the Tigers today.

The Reserve Grade with a few players missing didn’t put too much opposition to a better Turvey Park. Marty O’Donnell in his first match back for a few weeks was the best for Griffith, along with 'old stager' Michael Thompson and Ashley McCashney. The two non-trainers, Christian Files and Tony Butcher were also mentioned in dispatches.

The Under 18's took the match up to the highly fancied Turvey Park and it was only a couple of late goals by Turvey Park, which saw it take the points. Turvey were slow to start due to the poor lads having to get up early to get to Griffith to play football for the only time this season. I wonder how they would go if they lived at this end and had to travel four times. Damien Hill stood out against the poor Turvey Park lads along with Damien Candusso, Malcolm Burke, Ken O’Driscoll and Michael Reid.

It was good to see the Netball girls get two sides, even though the B Graders had difficulty in getting the ball in the ring, and the A Grade went down by 7 to Turvey. This leaves the A Grade girls in the four on percentage and need to win today to stay in the four.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" July 5, 1992 - No. 11

The Griffith Swans are on the way back as the match against Wagga showed last week and it was only in the closing stages where Wagga got the jump. Matthew McGuirk led the way with 9 goals in arguably the best game he has played for the club, while Gary Argus also showed his worth with a best on ground performance. It was good to see youngster Brent Hathaway show that he is a footballer in the making with a good display in the ruck, filling in for Greg Collins. Scott Angrove and Chris Conlan did well around the ground, along with Jamie Bennett. Evergreen Gerard Toscan had a good battle with Gerald Pieper with the honours coming about even on the day.

In the Reserve Grade, long Jim Stewart made a comeback to the side and kicked a couple of goals out of a 3-goal total. Mick Thompson battled hard all day and then lined up to the run the boundary in the Seniors, while Rhett Heffernan, Dom Spataro and James Latham were the best of the rest.

The Under 18's while having a few players missing due to work commitments and injuries, also went down by a big margin, but to the lads who travelled, thanks very much. Malcolm Burke, Peter Vardanega, Damien Hill and Angus Patterson stood out for Griffith.

The Netball girls dropped out of the four when they went down to the undefeated Wagga Tigers by one goal in what was described as a tough encounter. In a match that never reached any great heights netball wise, Griffith was unlucky to be defeated 17-16. Griffith is two points behind Ganmain-GGM and a win today against Leeton should see us sneak back into the four.

Today is the day which all the sides can back to the winning list with a bit of application as we welcome Leeton to the Exies Oval. Win, lose or draw everyone, players, supporters and even the opposition will be welcome in the clubrooms after the match.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" July 19, 1992 - No. 13

Well, we went to Coolamon with five sides and the one we wanted to win was the only one to face defeat. The Under 18's, Reserves and both the Netball sides did the job, but the Seniors didn't show too much enthusiasm in their match to take the prize and to get the two-game break over the Grasshoppers. Injuries and more injuries are coming and if they continue then we will see Mary (Collins) and Anne (Maloney) on the half forwards flanks for the Reserves.

Thanks goes to Shane Best for filling in and of course the grand old man Darrell Collins kicked another bag full.

Good 100-minute players were hard to find in the Seniors, but Ricky Burdett won the top prize in the encouragement award, Greg Collins also picked up a bit as did Jamie Bennett and Travis Payne. Thanks to Ernie Wade and the president (Brian Files) for the sponsorship this week.

Big win for the Reserves to cement a spot in the four and 'Psycho' Kevin Trafford, David Gee and Tony Butcher stood out with good back up from 'The Voice' Ian Cohen and Darrell Collins. I don't know where Darrell got the nickname 'Pin', but have you noticed the jumper has got that little bit tighter around the midriff.

The Under 18's had a win, the second for the season, and the Schmetzer boys, Trevor and Tim stood out along with Damien Hill and Brett 'Barney' Miller. It is good to see the improvement in these lads from week to week and if you stick at its boys, we'll clean up one of these tall poppies towards the end of the season.

Two Netball sides went to Coolamon and came away with two wins in good performances. If you are wondering who the girls are which play netball, check the knees as trainer Ray (Hargraves) had to patch up a few after they slipped on the sandy surface of the court.

Couple of social events coming up and the first on Friday, July 31 when the past players hold the Irish Christmas down at the sponsor's place and tickets for that are available from Len Sexton at $25 per head. The night includes a full Christmas dinner, and entertainer and a fair number of other frivolities. We don't want to make it compulsory, but a good roll up is needed. The other big one is in August and that is the famous Thommo's Trivia Night. Set up your tables of eight and start studying as Thommo has come up with $400 for first prize.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" July 26, 1992 - No. 14

Well, we got the points last week against East Wagga, but it was very unconvincing. We can tell everyone about how we had many players out of the side, but when it boils down, this was the best team we could put on the paddock and again one of the lower sides made us battle for the four points. As in previous matches, we played the first couple of quarters and then decided that was enough and with the matches still to come to finish the season, players will have to be prepared to risk life and limb, on the training track and the field, if we are to be in the play-offs.
Again, it was Gary Argus who kept the side moving and with over 30 possessions must be wondering when he is going to get some assistance. He would have to be polling well for the Quinn Medal. Gerard Toscan took the money again in the Encouragement Award sponsored and selected by Mick Thompson. Jamie Bennett, Damien Scott and Owen Brown picked up the other awards.
The Reserves had a good win, and it was the 'old stager' Shane Best who stood out in only his 2nd match of the season and Jason Vaccari did so well in one of his rare appearances, he was pulled off to have a run in the 1sts. Good to see Tony 'Big Dipper' DeSensa back on the paddock and get amongst the best.
The Under 18's were a bit underdone with injuries and unavailability and Damien Hill took the bit between the teeth and had a blinder at centre half forward. Wayne Donetto also did well and Peter Vardanega doesn't know how to play a bad game.
The Netballers kept their hopes alive with a solid win over last season's premiers East Wagga and a couple more under the belt will see them in the finals.
Don't forget to see Len Sexton today to book your tickets for the Irish Christmas next Friday at the Ex-Servicemen's Club.

We want a good roll up for this one as it is the first social function held this year and Mick Thompson is looking for table numbers for the Trivia Night to be held during August a date to be advised next week. This will be a good one as there is $500 prize money up for grabs to the winning table.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 2, 1992 - No. 15

A good gutsy, fighting win by the Swans last week and this is the type of football we will have to play if we are going to stand up and be counted come finals time. Injuries aren’t helping the cause, but that is a reason, not an excuse and players who have been selected in the 1st Grade are the best we have available according to the selector.

Gary Argus led the way again last week, even with the on-ground duties when rangy coach Matthew McGuirk sat down with injury. David Gee played his best game for some time and took out the Encouragement Award, sponsored by RTA Plumbers from Greg Dreyer, Damien Scott and Ricky Burdett.

The Reserve Grade has itself firmly planted in 4th spot on the ladder, but it took a couple of old stagers in Darrell Collins and Shane Best to settle the problem. Shane has come back as good as ever, while Darrell can’t spot kicking goals and grabbed another 11 last week. Paul Woolnough put in on the wing, Tony Butcher played well as a rover, while Malcolm Burke and Damien Hill stepped up from the U18s and made their presence felt. It makes you wonder what kids would do for a game of footy and we found out last week – nothing.

The Under 18's could only find 15 men at a home match which isn’t good enough and to those players who battled their heart out – a big thank you. Maybe a word from those who can’t be bothered might do the trick and enable you to get some assistance. Hilly and Burkey did well again, as did Peter Vardanega, Wayne Donetto and Brett ‘Barney’ Miller.

The A Grade Netballers moved up a notch after the win over Narrandera, which sent that side from third to fifth and we have another tough one today against Ganman. Ganmain is 4th and we are third so a bit of support at the netball court wouldn’t go astray. B Grade in the words of one player were defeated by a lot of goals to not too many, but at least we were out there trying.

Last Friday was a top night at the Irish Christmas and the next event on the card is Thommo’s Trivia Night in the clubrooms on Friday, August 14. Tables are needed and Thommo needs numbers very soon for the $500 prize money he has up for grabs.

It is old furniture time again with the annual auction at Woodside Hall set down for Saturday, August 22. So, if you have something to donate or sell on commission, see Ian Wade or ring Barb on 641400 during working hours to book your spot.

East Wagga did it, so today it’s our turn.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 9, 1992 - No. 16

One to forget about last week against Ganmain and make every post a winner from here on. It was only the Netball girls who finished on the right side of the ledger with a good win in A Grade, which keep them in the four, but the balance of the day was no better than the weather – cold.

We played a great first quarter against Ganmain in the Senior, but that was as far as it went as Ganmain was too good for the balance of the day. Lucks a fortune that Gary Argus doesn’t get injured in the matches as he is the only consistent goer we have in the side, week in, week out, while the others take it in turns to get a kick. Greg Dreyer stood out in the back pocket to take the Encouragement Award, sponsored by Greg Wade, while Gerard Toscan, Chris Conlan, Jamie Bennett and Scott Angrove were amongst the money as well.

Reserve Grade went down when it couldn’t match it with Ganmain in the 2nd quarter but came home in the concluding stages when it was all over. Jamie Reid made a welcome return after injury and played well as did the evergreens Darrell Collins and Steve Best. Ian Cohen and James Latham were also solid in defence.

The Under 18's went down, but at least had a full side and Wayne Donetto was the one to stand out from Jamie Reid and Peter Vardanega, and Damien Hill.

The B Grade Netballers were defeated, but not by much as the previous week, but it is good to see the girls getting the second side.

Next Friday is the Trivia Night with $500 prize money and Thommo looking for table numbers today. Also, players to be training on Monday, August 17 as the run will be taken by the living legend Ron Barassi.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 16, 1992 - No. 17

A better performance from the 1sts against Turvey Park which gives the club hope for the upcoming finals, but there are still 3 rounds before that part of the season comes up.
The 2nds were underdone due to the injuries in the 1sts, but another sad day when we couldn't raise Under 18's. Hopefully the lads will rally for today and we will get a side on the paddock to enable the club to fulfill its commitments.
While Gus Argus made it 7 best on the grounds in a row for the club, he would have been least please with the support he received last Sunday. Not only did Gus show his best, he also led the side well in the absence of Matthew McGuirk, who was out injured. Chis Conlan played one of his best games for the season to take the top award, sponsored by the Supporters Club in front of Dominic Spataro, Gerard Toscan, Jamie Bennett and Brent Hathaway.

Damien Hill came up from the Under 18's for his first match in the big time and did well.
In the 2nds, Brad Hammond stood out as did Paul Woolnough, Jim Shannon, Ron Irvin and Scott Collis. While the boys didn't win, they put in a good showing and with a bit of improvement, and a full side, should be in the finals for a long time.
The small loss for the Griffith netballers to Turvey Park in A Grade sees things tightening up at the top of the ladder with Narrandera and Ganmain level on points with the Griffith side in a battle for 4th place. With 3 games left including todays against top side Wagga, the battle is on to grab either 3rd or 4th.
Next Saturday is the infamous furniture auction at Woodside Hall and if you have any furniture or saleable item, get in touch with Ian or Barb Wade. Furniture or other saleable goods will be accepted either as a donation or to be sold on commission.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 23, 1992 - No. 18

The Firsts started to look like premiership contenders and played well with still a few players to come back from injury. The side continued on its good form from the Turvey Park match, and against Wagga last week and only needed more concentration to take the points.

The Reserves found the going a bit too tough against the top dogs, but like the Seniors will improve when the players come back. The Under 18's did well and thanks to those boys from the U15s who have finished their season and for making themselves available for the balance of the season to assist with the numbers.

Congratulations to the U13s side, which took the premiership from the previous undefeated Leeton side last Saturday at Narrandera.

The Netball girls like holding their spot in the four in A Grade with a good win over Wagga Tigers 32–7 last Sunday, but unfortunately, the B Grade got close 26-15, but didn’t win.

Chris Conlan came back to form last week in the 1sts at the right end of the season and got plenty of help from Gerard Toscan, even in a stray pair of boots after leaving his in the sunshine at home, and Jamie Bennett. Mention must be made of the performances of youngsters Damien Hill and Brent Hathaway, who have done well in the past couple of weeks.

A couple of old stagers in Darrell Collins and Shane Best stood out in the 2nds along with Mark Cameron, Paul Woolnough and Christian Files. Didn’t have much on thee U18s except that Jamie Reid and Peter Vardanega stood out all day, as did some of the U15s who came up.

Yesterday was the successful furniture auction and thanks go to Barb Wade and Fiona Beverley for all their hard work, plus Terry Bennett, Ron Spencer and Wayne Spencer for all the hard work and all of the other helpers, too many to mention here.

Next Sunday after the Coolamon match is the Vote Count Night and all players and supporters are asked to attend. Also, during the day, Calcutta tickets on the outcome will be sold and your support is needed in this department.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" August 30, 1992 - No. 19

The moment of truth has arrived for the club with the match against Coolamon today. It is a must win affair if we want to play at Narrandera next week and we will have to put it all together because the opponents of the day are looking for in the same direction as us.
We found out last week at Leeton that football is a winter sport with the match played probably the worst weather conditions for the season, but at least we got the points to keep the final four chances open. Gus Argus led the way again and only needs another good one to win the Milton's Gear Award and sent him back to Darwin looking like a toff. Owen Brown won the encouragement award, sponsored by ex-president Roy Agresta, from Jamie Bennett, Chris Conlan and David Gee.
In Reserve Grade, Christian Files picked up the money, and didn't shout, from Tony Butcher, Paul Woolnough and Wayne Tyndall.
The Under 18's had many good players, but none better than Troy Schmetzer, Malcolm Burke and Wayne Donetto.
Three wins in three grades will be a good way to finish the home and away season and a good way to celebrate Greg Collins 100th game.
Tonight, is the Vote Count Night for all grades and hopefully everyone will be in attendance. The Presentation Night is set down for Friday, October 9, so organise your tables and get the numbers into Kathy Bottcher as soon as possible.
Don't forget to get the boat raffle tickets back to Mary, today preferably, if not during the week.
We welcome the Coolamon players and supporters back to the rooms after the match for a drink and tucker.

GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" September 6, 1992 - No. 20

The Griffith Swans Football Club has reach Part A of its plan for 1992, reaching the final four and now, Part B comes into play whereby it will be looking to move through the series and go one better than last season.
With a full complement of players to select from for the first time this season, the Swans will take it up to Turvey Park and with a full squad, and the times we have met them this season, could have had a win on the board.
The Reserves are also in with a good chance to progress as they are getting some players back with the full complement in the Seniors.
The Netballers also leave the best to last and a win today will see them well on the way to a grand final appearance.
Congratulations to Gary Argus, who won the Clubs Best and Fairest and tied in the Milton's Gear award, Tony Butcher, who added the Reserves title to last season's third grade and Malcolm Burke for the third-grade award.
Karen Evans made it a double in the A Grade netball, while Mara Dreyer and Bernadette Cox drew in B Grade.
Good luck to all teams today and win, lose or draw we will congregate back at Ex-Servicemen's Club.
