GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" April 24, 1994 - No. 3

Well, the Griffith Swans had an excellent day, with plenty of red faces to prove it! No better way to start the season than to venture to Gumly Gumly and come home, via Barellan with four wins.
The Thirds had a tough struggle and came away smiling - none broader than 'TB'. With some wayward basketballers to come into contention, the future looks very good. Best players were Malcolm Burke, Matthew Bunn, Nathan Causley, Michael Agresta, Brent Harrison and Tim 'Old Man' Schmetzer.
The Seconds saw a lean mean team enter the paddock and the ground rang to the call. "Well, suck me dry..." - welcome home 'Bomber' Browne. In an uneven game, Mark 'The Voice' O'Bryan led from the front and was ably assisted by Col 'Doormat' Cassidy (with 6 goals) to win the $30, Richard Telfer $20, Mark 'Wire' Cameron $10. Steve Cunial and Graham 'Axle' Foley (until an elbow to his eye performed the ripe watermelon trick).
The Firsts made hard work against an improved Hawks. Starting that slow is like giving Ros Kelly a chance to explain her whiteboard - unbelievable and with a limited future. Best players were Tim Fraser, Warren McKenzie, Phil Rowston, Peter Casey, Shane Ruyg, Andrew Barber and Shane 'Fitness & Discipline' Fitzsimmons. Winners of the incentive awards donated by Les Wilesmith were Ricky Burdett $100, Jamie Bennett $50, Peter Casey $30 and David Eichler $20.
The Netball team came away with a two-goal win in a scrappy game. Nicole Hathaway, Karen Evans and Peta Bennett had good games. Welcome to new player and mum Melanie. Numbers are a bit short, new players most welcome.
Congratulations to longtime supporters, Bill and Monica O'Brien who celebrate 50 years of wedded bliss this week.
