GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" July 26, 1992 - No. 14

Well, we got the points last week against East Wagga, but it was very unconvincing. We can tell everyone about how we had many players out of the side, but when it boils down, this was the best team we could put on the paddock and again one of the lower sides made us battle for the four points. As in previous matches, we played the first couple of quarters and then decided that was enough and with the matches still to come to finish the season, players will have to be prepared to risk life and limb, on the training track and the field, if we are to be in the play-offs.
Again, it was Gary Argus who kept the side moving and with over 30 possessions must be wondering when he is going to get some assistance. He would have to be polling well for the Quinn Medal. Gerard Toscan took the money again in the Encouragement Award sponsored and selected by Mick Thompson. Jamie Bennett, Damien Scott and Owen Brown picked up the other awards.
The Reserves had a good win, and it was the 'old stager' Shane Best who stood out in only his 2nd match of the season and Jason Vaccari did so well in one of his rare appearances, he was pulled off to have a run in the 1sts. Good to see Tony 'Big Dipper' DeSensa back on the paddock and get amongst the best.
The Under 18's were a bit underdone with injuries and unavailability and Damien Hill took the bit between the teeth and had a blinder at centre half forward. Wayne Donetto also did well and Peter Vardanega doesn't know how to play a bad game.
The Netballers kept their hopes alive with a solid win over last season's premiers East Wagga and a couple more under the belt will see them in the finals.
Don't forget to see Len Sexton today to book your tickets for the Irish Christmas next Friday at the Ex-Servicemen's Club.

We want a good roll up for this one as it is the first social function held this year and Mick Thompson is looking for table numbers for the Trivia Night to be held during August a date to be advised next week. This will be a good one as there is $500 prize money up for grabs to the winning table.
