SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record June 20, 1999 - No.10

ON a very wet winters day and under difficult conditions the Griffith Swans were able to win all three grades comfortably (over Mangoplah), for the first time in 1999.

The Seniors started slowly but pulled away after quarter time to record a strong win and a vital four points. There were some encouraging signs and at the halfway mark of the season let's hope we can improve our on-field efforts in the second half of the year and upset some of the higher places' teams on the ladder. Awards were donated by Jack Trimbole at Griffith Autoscreen. So, remember, if you've got a crack see Jack. The Exies Dinner was won by young wingman Rodney "he's got the looks" Duncan with a top game, the Snuggle Inn award was won by coach Paul "Bugs" Eyles who showed outstanding wet weather skills, the McDonalds award was won by youngster Michael "not Matthew" Johns with a consistent four quarter effort, and the McNabb Fuel award was won by consistent defender Paul "Norm" Brasier who made several telling saves.

The Reserves finally cracked it for a win, and this was certainly enjoyed by all involved. With a little more commitment towards training I am sure there will be a few wins in the second half of the season. Thanks to Rosco (Elliott) and Sheeds (Wade) for the after-match BBQ and beers, it was really appreciated by the players. The Players' Player Mug and Billabong Bottleshop award was won by the nuggerty on-baller Tony "the silent assassin" Butcher, the McDonalds award was won by the classy half forward Michael Duncan who backed up after a game in the Under 18s, and the Griffith Laundry Service award was won by bigman David "Mr. T" Sheather with a top effort in the ruck.

The Under 18's bounced back to the winners list with a resounding win keeping the opposition to one-point for the day. A top win for the guys and now they must concentrate on securing a top three spot in the finals. The awards were the C & P Express JDs Pizza was won by tough little man Ben Ford with a top effort in suitable conditions, the McDonalds award to the consistent Stephen Mitchell, and the Lowes Socks went to Ben Leach with a much-improved effort.

Congrats to Mark Hildebrandt on representing the successful RFL team that defeated the SFL. Similarly, congratulations also to Michael Duncan and Shane Russell on making the RFL U18 team who also defeated the SFL. On the social scene tonight at the Exies Sports Club after the game we have a Dutch Auction. Donations of any goods will be accepted, and everything must be sold. Meals will also be available. Next week after the Temora game we have a Cocktail Party and Horse Racing evening at the Exies Sports Club. $5 entry per person with great prizes to be won including fashions on the field. Please make an effort to attend these evenings.
