GRIFFITH NOTES: "The Aussie Ruler" September 6, 1970 - No. 21

By Swan: A cartoon in Saturday's local "Daily News" featuring two tigers wearing Whitton guernsey's Nos. 1 and 6, discussing, with confident grins, a "luverly" meal of roast swan, provided just the spur needed to bring out the best in the Swans and the semifinal result is now history.
Whitton, however, are to be commended on a non-stop effort but the lack of experience in finals proved too big a handicap.
We had a lot of good players in a pleasing team effort, but a special word of praise went from Doug Prior to young George Duncan, who, in the back pocket, had the unenviable job of minding the resting rovers and coped with Peter Clarke and Bill Aliendi very well.
Congratulations to our young full forwards, Chris Sharpe and Paul Savage, who respectively won the Seconds and Thirds goalkicking, thus emulating Grant Luhrs and Chris last year.
Grant, due to injury and studies did not play this season but in Chris, Paul and young First Grader Vic Wilson, our future as to full forwards seems pretty bright.
The Firsts have won their way to the Preliminary Final and today will tell whether our Seconds and Thirds join them at Narrandera next Sunday or move directly to the Grand Final.
