Match report - Swans on Screen: After an indifferent display in the previous two matches, the Griffith Swans provided further evidence of their all-round strength by convincingly defeating Narrandera Eagles by 71 points. The win, which advanced their percentage to an impressive 150 per cent, was accomplished without any great flurry. Swans junior Bede Kenny made his first-grade debut by kicking a goal. The red and white showed plenty of pace and enthusiasm early on while the blue and gold seemed to be more concerned with holding the opposition rather than developing their own positive and creative type of play. That great ruckman Nathan Richards gave on-ballers James Girdler, Tom Baxter and Cooper Kilpatrick numerous opportunities, and these players sparked off many attacks. Kahlan Spencer led the forwards capably and set them a fine example with his own courageous ball-getting and co-operation with fellow forwards. Spencer and Tom Powell kicked 7 goals between them and were ably supported by Billy Evans, Isaac Conlan, Ollie Bartter and Jordan Whitworth on the forward flanks. The Eagles defence began to wilt under the consistent pressure thrust upon it by a winning Swans centre line and strong play in defence. The most significant display on Saturday was undoubtedly 17-year-old Willem Vaessen's performance in blanketing the Tiwi Island stars. His strong marking and clever foot passing did much to open up Swans forward line. The Eagles played poorly and probably had one of those days when you get out of bed on the wrong side. They missed some easy shots at goal but at least to their credit never gave up the fight. There are still four sides either in or just outside the five that Swans have yet to meet, and on Saturday's showing one would think that the Swans could make things very difficult for them.
