A summary of match report, with thanks
Minor premiers Griffith Swans advanced to the 2002 RFL grand final after scoring a comprehensive 84-point second semi-final victory over premiership contenders, Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong at the Ex-Servicemen's Oval on Sunday afternoon.
Griffith will now meet the winner of next week preliminary final between Ganmain-GGM and Turvey Park, who easily outclassed East Wagga-Kooringal by 96 points in the minor semi-final at Narrandera Sportsground on Saturday.
Griffith captain-coach Cian Ebert was pleased with the outcome and said it had been a while since the Swans had been in the finals and all the players had been nervous to begin with but once they settled down, they were able to build up a handy 25-point lead at quarter time.
After adding two goals early in the second quarter Griffith lapsed and it was not until late in the quarter that they were able to score two more majors to go to a handy lead at the long break.
In the third quarter saw a more free-flowing style of play through the centre, but due to pressure of the Griffith defence led by Jon O'Dwyer were only able to add three goals as Griffith compiled a further seven goals during the quarter to take control of the game.
Griffith restricted Ganmain-GGM to one solidarity point point during the last quarter while adding three goals themselves to run out convincing winners 19.10 (124) to 5.10 (40).
