Match report: Collingullie-Wagga are the 2024 Riverina League premiers after they claimed a thrilling six-point win against Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong. The Demons trailed at every break; however, they booted three unanswered goals in the final term to claim a nail biting 7.6 (48) to 5.12 (42) victory over the Lions. Demons key forward Nate Mooney kicked what turned out to be the winning goal at the 18-minute mark of the fourth quarter which also signified the first time in the match the Demons had the lead. Collingullie Wagga assistant coach Kane Flack was awarded The Hutchins Medal for best-on-ground while Sam Stening finished with three goals.
Demons co-coach Shane Lenon was immensely proud of the efforts shown from his side to overcome the odds and win the grand final. "It's a pretty special win," Lenon said. "We were behind all day, and we just hung in, they probably let us off the hook a little bit early, but our pressure was at a high level for the whole game. "That kept us in the game, and I could sense the game changed about halfway through the third quarter. We started to get a bit more ball on the outside and we started to work through them a lot better. "Then in the last quarter every contest was big, and we won some crucial contests in the last five or six minutes. "They stood up and obviously got over the line, it could've gone either way, but it was a fantastic win."
The game: There was a strong breeze to the northern end of the ground, and it was the Lions who had that to their benefit after GGGM captain Ben Walsh won the toss. The Lions, however, failed to make the most of the wind advantage and they entered quarter-time at 0.9 after squandering a fair few chances in front of the sticks. Stening would kick the opening goal of the grand final at the four-minute mark of the second term which was the first score of the match for the Demons after they failed to register a point in the opening quarter. It was end-to-end footy for a fair portion of the second term with the Lions first goal of the decider finally coming just before half-time through Tom Anderson. A reply a few minutes later through Ed Perryman would see the Demons trailing by only three points as the teams entered the sheds at halftime.
The Lions again had the breeze to their advantage in the third quarter and an early goal to Jack Powell was the dream start to the second half for GGGM. Matt Klemke hit straight back for the Demons, however, back-to-back goals to Dan Foley saw the Lions open up what was a game high 15-point lead. A goal to Stening reduced the margin back to single figures before a goal in red time to Jack McCaig saw the Lions take a 14-point lead into the final change. Brad McMillan had the opening goal of the final quarter to reduce the margin to nine points and when Stening had his third at the 12-minute mark, the Demons were trailing by just two. The Demons hit the post twice within a minute to level things up, before Mooney kicked what proved to be the premiership-winning goal. Match report: Collingullie-Wagga returned to the top of Riverina League reserve grade with another premiership victory. The Demons came out firing and a big opening half laid the platform for a 9.8 (62) to 4.11 (35) win over Ganmain-GGM. It was the club's fourth reserve grade flag in the past 10 years and the win denied the Lions as they strove to end a 40-year drought. Collingullie came out blazing and with the wind behind them opened up a 21-point lead at quarter time. The Demons then won the second term against the breeze, helping to establish a 29-point half time advantage. The second half become a lot more congested and scrappier, and the Lions were never able to get close enough to challenge. Collingullie coach Matt Geppert, who set the tone with the first goal inside the first 20 seconds of the game, was thrilled to pull off the grand final upset. "Unbelievable. They had it over us all year," Geppert said. "We put it all together on the day and that's all that matters." As for another reserve grade premiership for the club, Geppert said it was no accident. "It's just a great club." (By Matt Malone).

Match report: Mangoplah-CUE captured back-to-back under 17.5 premierships in emphatic fashion. A fast-start helped the Goannas get on top and from there they were never bothered on their way to a dominant 18.9 (117) to 7.10 (52) win over Leeton-Whitton. MCUE set the platform with six unanswered goals in the opening term, aided by a breeze, but then extended the margin to 43 points at half-time. The Crows closed within six goals a couple of times but could not gather enough momentum to trouble the minor premiers. The result was a reversal of Leeton-Whitton's 26-point win in the second semi-final but the inclusion of a number of eligible first graders for the Goannas made a big difference. Jack Warden starred for MCUE and was awarded the Kohlhagen Medal for best-on-ground after a stellar display in the midfield that also included four goals. MCUE co-coach Harry Fitzsimmons couldn't believe how well his team started the game: "That was probably the best quarter I've ever seen them play." (By Matt Malone).
