Match report - Swans on Screen: On Saturday last, Collingullie-Wagga Demons gave a superb exhibition of wet weather football to thrash Griffith on a rain-soaked Crossroads Oval ground. The Gullie boys won because they led the race to the ball, went in harder and were more determined. For a team playing without five regulars being rested, and three of them holding down key positions, it was a truly amazing team effort. It was astonishing to see how many times Griffith allowed their opponents to comfortable mark unguarded. Classy players Steve Jolliffe, Sam Stening, Ed and Nick Perryman were all involved in a devastating first quarter burst of six goals that shattered any hopes of an improbable Swans' win.
Best player for Griffith was ruckman Nathan Richards, who won many hit outs and strove desperately all day to lift the lethargic players around him. It was unfortunate as there were several who were not prepared to meet the ball or opponent hard, whether through lack of confidence or good old-style grit it is difficult to say. The game was all over as the last term started, and yet this was our best for the day. To kick 2 goals to nil at this stage was full of merit and a good fightback. So, bring on the elimination final next Sunday and let's see what the Swans can do when they face the Hoppers at Narrandera Sportsground. (By Trevor Harrison).
