A summary of match report, with thanks
Griffith added its latest weapon, Andrew Hill, to its already impressive forward line armoury in a 47-poit win over Coolamon in the Riverina Football League yesterday. Full forward Hill used his 190 centimetres and bulk to good advantage to finish with 6.2 as the Swans won 19.14 (128) to 11.15 (81) at Kindra Park. It was Hill's first senior game this season and he combined well with the Swans' other talls in Matt Olney, Danny Beriman and centre half forward Jeff Mickan. Griffith coach Cian Ebert said Hill's performance was exactly what the Swans were looking for with so many players out. He said Hill led and marked well and kicked accurately, which made him a dangerous footballer.

"The last time we faced Coolamon we brought in young Ben Wade for his initial senior game, and he kicked six goals," Ebert said. "Coolamon must be ruing us bringing new players into the side when we meet them.

"We just hope Hill keeps putting his hand up now. "Overall, it was a fantastic effort taking into account how depleted we are at the moment.

"We had good numbers to the ball and when we got it to our zone, we had three or four options."

Coolamon's captain-coach Matt Hard turned in another outstanding leader's performance, but it was not enough to combat the pressure Griffith applied. He said the Hoppers put it to Griffith in the first two quarters but lapsed badly in the third session. "We made them earn every possession in the first two quarters," Hard said. "The most pleasing factor was the fact we did not lie down in the last quarter."

Leading by 18 points at half-time the Swans took a firm grip of the game with three goals by Rod Duncan, Hill and Matt Olney in as many minutes as the third term got under way. Olney, Chris Conlan and Hill added majors midway through the quarter to hold a lead of 53 points at one stage. Duncan was back to the form which won him the Swans' best and fairest last season.

He initiated many attacks from around the ball as did Phil Rowston while Olney, Kaine Malone, Craig and Chris Conlan shone at times in attack. Swans defenders Damien Scott, Shawn Conlan and Jon O'Dwyer never let the Coolamon forwards settle and gave them little latitude.

Hard, on-baller Michael Moodie and ruckman Andrew McCaig were strong for the Hoppers over the four quarters while Greg McKelvie and Adam McKenzie did well with limited chances. (By Peter Baker - The Daily Advertiser, Monday July 22, 2002).
