GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" September 6, 1997 - No. 23

The Seniors were sluggish all day against a very determined and fired up (Whitton-Leeton) opposition. Unfortunately, the result went against us' but fortunately it had no impact on our position in the final five.
Today we must improve our intensity if we want to remain in the final series beyond this week. The non-contracted players awards were $130 to Brett "Swampy" Davis, $70 to Wayne "Illusions" Bodycott, $50 to Greg "Beeper" Collins, $30 to Damien "Tyson" Scott and $20 to Matthew "Kernaghan" Bunn.
The Reserves started well and went on to record a big win. The Bertoldos Bakery best players awards were $30 to Brent "Hooker" Harrison, $20 to David "Maintenance" Gee, and $10 to Mark "Elastic" Cameron. The players' player award went to Trent "Cool" Demarco and the Mugs' Mug went to Glen "Rednut" Collis.
The Under 18's battled hard but could not break the back of a determined opposition. Unfortunately, the loss put them out of the top five for one of the few times this season. Bad luck guys. Congratulations on your effort this year, it was a vast improvement in 1996. The best players were Michael Duncan, Michael Tull, Michael Elliott, Shane Russell and Rodney Simpkin. Many thanks must go to George Duncan, Bill Kite and Graham Olney for their tremendous support of the Under 18's throughout the season.
Congratulations to the respective winners of the best and fairest awards. Trevor Clarke in the Seniors, Brent Harrison in the Reserves and Mick Elliott in the Under 18's. Also, a belated happy birthday to our Treasurer Ffiona Beverley. No ages revealed, but for anyone who is interested just think of Greg Dreyer.
Tonight, after the game everyone we welcome all players and supporters back to the Exies Sports Club for a few cold ones and a bite to eat. Please do not forget the Presentation Night on Friday 24th October at the Ex-Servicemen's Club. All players and supporters are requested to attend.
