GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" May 10, 1992 - No. 4

One lick of the ice cream doesn't make a meal, and the same goes for a good win in the football season. The Senior players did a brilliant job on the Wagga Tigers to get the points, but like Captain Cook finding Australia - it's history.

Today we start again against Coolamon and another win at home is what we need before heading off into the wild blue yonder for two away games in the next two rounds. The rangy Greg Collins hasn't put a foot wrong in two weeks and was adjudged best on the ground for the two games in succession and took out the incentive award donated by Leo Barry. Colin Cassidy wasn't far behind in the centre and lived up to the promise by Les Parish that if he got himself fit this year, he would make it. David Gee was also in the money with a good match and Jamie Bennett picked up the second award for his non-stop running game all day. Big Matthew McGuirk put some 'raidite' on his hands and hung on to the ball to kick seven goals at full forward.

In the Reserves, soccer convert Dom Testoni looked as though he had been using his hands all of his life and marked well to win the best on ground. Christian Files came up with his third second best on ground in as many matches and it looks as though the recent engagement to Kelly has lifted his game. Others to show out were Wayne Tyndall, Ian Cohen and Paul Woolnough.

Good to see 30 players at the ground looking for a run in the Under 18's and the boys put in a great show for their first hit out together. Brent Hathaway played well in the ruck and was well backed up by Paul Rovere, Brett Miller, Angus Patterson and Michael Reid. If this sort of numbers turns up today, then a win against Coolamon is on the cards.

The Netball girls haven't been able to get on the winning list to date and the B Graders went down to Wagga 38-8, while the A Grade put up a better performance to lose 28-23 and a win is just around the corner.

Today we welcome Coolamon to the club and unfortunately for supporters it is the last home game until we met Ganmain on June 14.
