GRIFFITH NOTES: "Riverina Football Record" June 14, 1992 - No. 8 

At long last, the Griffith Swans can perform where they do it best - at the Ex-Servicemen's Oval. The club has been missing from home for the past five weeks and what a game to come home to, Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong.

The sides performed reasonably well against Narrandera in the last round, but again last week there was another bye and both sides today are virtually starting the season in earnest. With all the byes out of the way, it is all systems go until the finals with football on every weekend. In the Narrandera match, Griffith battled hard in the first three quarters to throw off the shackles of the Eagles but got it together in the last quarter to kick eight goals and get a win. Damien Scott won the bulk of the money in the Encouragement Award, sponsored by Shane Best Painters, in front of Colin Cassidy, Owen Brown and evergreen Ian Geddes.

The Reserves had a big win over Narrandera to hold onto fourth position on the ladder, equal with Turvey Park. Tony Butcher had a day out with seven goals, and it was good to see the Mexican import 'Choko' Kucinic get best on ground. Others to show out were Matthew Mamouney and Christian Files.

The Under 18's didn't have the best of days, going down to Narrandera by a big margin and it was the usual players who stood out. Michael Reid, Damien Hill, Peter Vardanega and Malcolm Burke all stood out and with a few games under the belt, it would be expected to see others amongst these names.

The Netball girls had another win in A Grade and now find themselves in the four, but the B Graders seem to be slackening off with numbers.

Today is the biggest for the season for the Swans so far, so let's all get behind Matthew McGuirk and all the players and send the Lions home with their tails between their legs.
