SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record April 17, 1999 - No 2.

NOT much can be said about the performance last Sunday, only that significant improvement is needed starting now from everyone involved in the club, that being the players and the committee. Despite the poor start it was only the first game and we now have the opportunity today to get back on the right track against Temora.
The Seniors started slowly and faced a large deficit at half time due to many poor skill errors. Things did not improve in the third quarter however a minor revival in the final term showed promise for the future. The awards were kindly sponsored by Danny's Store. The Exies dinner for two was won by Dean "Denzi" Jamieson, the Snuggle Inn by Phil "Rowdy" Rowston, the Warren Lowry Award to Jake "The Snake" Maguire and the McNabb fuel award to Damien "the birthday boy" Scott.
The 2nds faced a struggle getting numbers on the day but eventually came up with a side that battled hard throughout but were convincingly beaten by a much fitter and more skilful team. The Player's Player Mug was won by Denis "old man river" Bannam, the Billabong Bottle Shop award was won by Scott "Forward Pass" Blanchard, the Warren Lawry award was won by Matthew "Special K" Kenny and the Griffith Laundry Service award was won by Matthew "Not Myles" Bunn.
The 18's were the sole winners for the day and they played very well and recorded a big win. The awards were the P & C Griffith Express JD's Pizza was won by Dom Giorgi, the Trevor Harrison Towel was won by Kane Bannam and the C & P Griffith Express socks were won by the Under 18's captain for 1999 Rodney Simpkin.
Best wishes for everyone at Griffith are extended to Brian Wild from East Wagga-Kooringal on a full and speedy recovery after a freak accident in the senior game on Sunday. It is unfortunate to see accidents like this occur and everyone from Griffith wishes Brian the best for a full and complete recovery.
On the social scene do not forget about the $1000 reverse draw on Sunday 18th April. See Roy Agresta for tickets. There is a 70's Night on Saturday 24th April. See Kelly Ruyg for more details and Matty Kenny for all your clothing needs. This week's awards are sponsored by Bidgee Marine/Mitchell Ag Parts and we thank them for that.
The first players profile for the 1999 season is on Matthew Kenny.

Fav pastimes: Admiring my body in the mirror at gymnasiums, renting houses to footballers, driving in a safe and responsible manner, doing jigsaw puzzles at night, peroxiding my hair, Fav Drink: QF's hip flasks of scotch, anything from Harvs at the Elbow. Likes" 70's clothes, lovers, hippis, blond hair, hearing my name screamed out by the coach at training. Dislikes: Monday to Thursday when the nightclubs open, the St Vincent De Paul clothes shop being closed in Griffith. Ambition in life: To train one night without incurring the coach's wrath.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record April 24, 1999 - No 3.

AFTER an inspiring second quarter and a 5-goal half time lead the seniors threw away a winning chance (against Temora) with poor kicking for goal. We kicked 1 goal 11 at one stage of the second half and this is not the way to go about winning. We need to make the most of our chances, starting today. It is a learning experience for many of the guys but when we get the chance like last week, we must learn to take it.
The awards in the Seniors were sponsored by Bidgee Marine/Mitchell Ag Parts and the Exies Dinner was won by Daniel "The Fruit Fly" Tuohey, the Snuggle Inn Towel was won by Myles "Country and Western" Bunn, the McDonalds Voucher was won by Dean "Ginger" Jamieson and the McNabb Petrol Voucher was won by Matthew "Mr. Muscles" Waide.
The 2nds started slowly again but showed sum spirit after half time. The Player's Mug was won by Jason "The nightclub king" Maskell, the Billabong Bottle Shop award was won by Colin "Sticky fingers" Cassidy, the McDonalds award was won by Paul "Norm" Brasier, and the Griffith Laundry Service Award was won by Corey "the pit bull terrier" Frater.
The 18's had another outstanding win and it is a credit to the players to be able to perform as they currently are with so many guys in the seniors and unavailable. The C & P Griffith Express JDs Pizza Award was won by Matthew Edwards, the McDonalds award was won by Luke Jasprizza and the C & P Griffith Express Socks was won by Jeff Harris.
Do not forget the 70s Night tonight at the Jondaryan Club. $10 per person includes supper. Please everyone attends and make this a great night. Thanks to those attended the $1000 draw on Sunday. A great day was had by everyone.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record May 2, 1999 - No 4.

THE Seniors battled hard all day (against Narrandera) and had their chances to win but did not make the most of their opportunities. We really need to grab our chances and make the most of our opportunities we give ourselves.

The Under 18's played very well to hold off a strong opposition. Keep up the good work boys. The C & P Griffith Express JDs Pizza award was won by Dom Giorgi, the Trevor Harrison Towel was won by Luke Jasprizza, and the C & P Griffith Express Socks were won by Simon McClure.
A top night was had by those who attended the 70's Night. Thanks to Kelly and helpers for organising a great evening.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record May 8, 1999 - No 5.

WITH near perfect conditions for football a huge crowd saw the opposition (Leeton-Whitton) get away to a flyer in the first term after several wasted opportunities for us. To the guy's credit they persisted in the next few quarters and the final margin was similar to that at quarter time. As said many times previously, when we have our chances, we must take them and make the most of them.

The awards were donated by Shane Best Painting, and they were as follows: The Exies Dinner was won by Damien 'Super Boot' Scott, The Snuggles-In towel was won by Danny 'The dentists' best friend' Beriman, the McDonalds voucher was won by Myles 'It must be love' Bunn and the McNabb Fuel voucher was won by Matt 'The car only takes LPG' Pollock.

The 2nds again had plenty of the football but were not able to turn the efforts into scores on the board. A better effort towards training by these guys and I am sure the wins will come. The awards: The Players Player Mug was won by Mark 'Welcome back Armenian rubber man' Cameron, the Billabong Shop award was won by Grant 'Mr. Consistency' Kelson, the McDonalds award was won by Mick 'What a leap' Clayden, and the Griffith Laundry Service voucher was won by Nathan 'The fisherman' Flint.

The Under 18's battled courageously against the odds with many players unavailable and were defeated in a close contest. It was a top effort from the players with some of the lesser light in the team contributing well. The awards were the C & P Express JDs Pizza award was won by Adrian Poscoliero, the McDonalds voucher was won by Rick Frkovic and the C & P Express socks were won by Ben Leach.

This week's player profile is on Paul Brasier.

Position: Ruck rover, centre half forward. Favourite pastime: Making my hair stand up like Marg Simpson's after a few beers, working overtime and travelling on training nights. Likes: Beer, no training under Terry Daniher, stationary forwards, Donna's cooking, pool sessions, being late for training. Dislikes: Mobile forwards, drinking with Ray Willis, stress. Favourite music: Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, Janis Joplin. Most memorable moment: Meeting Hat (Bruce Whitehead).

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record May 16, 1999 - No. 6

THE Seniors despite a slow start showed what they can do in the second and third terms as they cruised to a comfortable win (against Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong). There were some terrific efforts on the night with everyone contributing to our first win of the season.
The awards were donated by Kevin and Mim Rowston and they were: The Players' Player Mug and Exies Dinner for two was won by 50 gamer Daniel "Fruit Fly" Tuohey with a top effort, the Snuggle Inn Towel was won by Shane "The Drooling Goose" Ruyg with a bag of 10 goals, the McDonalds award to Rodney "Sleeping Beauty" Duncan with a solid 4 quarter effort and the McNabb Fuel Award was won by Matthew "XTC" Kenny with a top second half. There were plenty of fine contributors in what was a very good and much needed win.
The Reserves certainly had their chances but could not convert in the second half and hence suffered another defeat. The signs in the first half were encouraging and a greater effort at training can only benefit us as we move into a difficult month. The Players' Player Mug and the Billabong Bottle Shop Award was won by Simon "Rowdy" Spiers with a disciplined game, the McDonalds Award was won in a welcomed return to form by Tom "Mr. laconic" Spry, and the Griffith Laundry Service Award was won by the consistent Jason "fisherman" Maskell.
The U18s bounced back with a huge win in a top team effort. The C & P Griffith Express JDs Pizza Award was won by Michael Duncan with six goals, the McDonalds Award was won by Paul McCormack, and the Lowes Award was won by U16 player Tom Gallagher.
Tonight, we head back to the Crown Hotel after the game and all players and supporters are most welcome.
This week's player profile is on a man of the moment himself, Shane Ruyg.

Nicknames: The Goose, The Dribbler, The Rug, Boxhead. Favourite pastimes: Hearing other people but not listening to them, being very loud, kicking goals, telling people how many I kick, wearing an apron, cleaning up after Danny Beriman, cooking for Shayne Driscoll, watching C7, projecting saliva into the atmosphere. Dislikes: Chasing, Greg Dreyer. Favourite Drink: Bourbon and Coke. Favourite Venue: The Elbow Room after 3am only. Ambition in life: To be able to hold a conversation after a few drinks and not having the other person need an umbrella to talk to me.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record May 23, 1999 - No. 7

A poor start with opportunities not being taken in the first quarter (against Coolamon) compounded into an eight-goal deficit at half time. Despite a minor revival in the third term, we were convincingly defeated. A fair bit more work is required at training to try to improve our skill level as our endeavour at the ball is not the problem.

In the Seniors the awards were donated by Ernie Wade and Athlete's Foot, and we thank them for that. They were as follows: The Exies Dinner for Two was won by Rod 'Rocket' Duncan with a top effort off half back, the Snuggles-In towel was won by that little on-baller who always gives 100% Tony 'Bulldog" Butcher, the Warren Lowry voucher and Players' Player award was won by stout defender Damien 'King of the Crown Hotel' Scott and the McNabb Fuel award was suitably won by solid mid-fielder Matt 'Revhead' Pollock.

The 2nds started well but ran out of fitness, regardless of the result the effort by the players was tremendous and a special mention goes to the 18's who backed up and all played very well. Without these guys backing up we would not have had a game, so thank you very much boys. The awards: The Players' Player Mug was won by the rugged mid-fielder Tom 'The Tank Engine' Spry, the Billabong Bottleshop award was won by dashing defender David 'Toecutter' Dunn, the Warren Lowry voucher was won by the consistent backman Simon 'The Silent Assassin' Spiers, and the Griffith Laundry Service voucher was won by an Under 18 player who backed up and kicked three goals Luke 'Speedy Gonzales' Jasprizza. We need to get a few more guys prepared to travel to away games if we are going to be more competitive and support those blokes that do travel away.

The Under 18s were again the shining light on the day with another big win and claiming top spot on the ladder. Thanks goes to the Under 16's players that played. The awards were as follows: The C & P Griffith Express JDs Pizza award was won by the ever improving backman Rick Frkovic, the Trevor Harrison towel was won by the youngster Tom Gallagher with a good display, and the C & P Express socks was won by the elusive forward Garry Minchin with six goals.

This week player profile is on the injury party sensation Christian Files.

Nicknames: Frog, Frogger, Filsey, Coit Rash, Magilla, Mappy. Favourite pastimes: Nudity, drinking, showing my coit rash, visiting the physio, being hungover, wetting the bed, using the telephone at odd hours of the morning, being unfit, going out on Mappy tours, going to Griffith Swans cocktail parties. Favourite Drink: Copious amounts of bourbon and coke, whatever is available after the Crown Hotel and Elbow Room closes. Career highlights: Undoubtedly the infamous dash across the Exies Oval for cash during a night cricket match on my Bucks Night! Ambition in Life: To play a season of cricket without suffering the dreaded coit rash, to play a game of football without getting injured, to go on another Mappy tour. Most admired Person: My Beechworth next door neighbour, Artie.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record May 30, 1999 - No. 8

The Seniors must learn one quarter of football (against Turvey Park) is not enough to win a game. Yet again we were slow out of the blocks and faced a half time deficit greater than Justin Sanson's Mastercard account after a weekend with Danny Files. A minor revival started late in the third term before we came home strongly in the last. The rain came at the wrong time for the boys and took the sting out of the game. Still, we cannot expect success on the back of one quarter of football.

The awards were donated by Brian Hammond, and we thank him for that. They are as follows: The Exies Dinner was won by the dashing defender Damien Scott, the Snuggles Inn towel was won by the much-improved Matthew 'Posh Spice' Kenny, the McDonalds award was won by the high-flying Paul "Gomer" Eyles, and the McNabb Fuel voucher was won by the youngster Shane "Chopper" Russell.

The 2nds again battled hard but could not get the four points. They never gave in so keep at its boys. The Players' Player Mug and Billabong award was won by the old man Colin 'Mr. Fitness' Cassidy, the McDonalds was won by the nuggety on-baller Corey 'Pit Bull' Frater, and the Griffith Laundry Service award was won by the cuddly defender Scott 'I am not an animal' Collis who performed well under extreme duress.

The Under 18's had a top win in a controversial game against a top five opponent. Keep up the good work boys. The awards were as follows: The C & P Express JDs Pizza award was won by the U16 player Leigh Owen with a top effort up forward, the McDonalds award was won by the ever-consistent on-baller Michael Duncan, and the Lowe's award was won by the hard running Paul McCormack.

Tonight, we are going back to the Crown Hotel after the game and all players and supporters are welcome.

This week's player profile is the most eligible bachelor in Carrathool, Mark Cameron.

Nicknames: Cammo, the Armenian rubber man, stretch; Favourite Drink: Casked wine from the Exies Sports Club; Favourite Pastime: Winning the 2nd grade players mug, doing the dishes, sleeping in houses other than where I am meant to sleep; Likes: Carrathool Races, staying at Ron Irvin's house, downing a red or two after a hard game; Dislikes: training, getting to games on time, being sober, expensive bottles of red; Biggest influence on career: Who ever thought of having players' player mug; Ambition in Life: To be able to attend a pre-season training run to see what it is like.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record June 6, 1999 - No. 9

On a miserable day the Seniors never really got going after quarter time against (Wagga Tigers) and were comfortably defeated in wet and heavy conditions. We had chances early, however the game was over at half time. The boys fought it out well and the endeavour shown by some of the players was outstanding. The awards were sponsored by Trevor Harrison, and we thank him for that. The Exies Dinner was won by Paul "Blocker" Brasier with a solid game in defense, the Snuggle Inn towel was won by youngster Paul "No frills" Kite, the Warren Lowry award was won by ruckman Aaron "Plugger" Taylor, and the McNabb Fuel award was won by stout defender Greg "Grumpy" Dreyer.

The Reserves showed plenty of spirit with 17 players but were well beaten after the first quarter blow out. The Billabong Bottleshop award was won by on-baller Nick "Mr. Punctuality" Donnellon, the Warren Lowry voucher was won by the courageous Corey "Junkyard dog" Frater, and the Griffith Laundry Service was won by defender Luke "Heinzy" Irons. Many thanks to the Under 18s that backed up.

The Under 18's were undermanned but battled hard in the wet to be just defeated. It was a terrific effort by the youngsters in difficult conditions. The C & P Express JDs Pizza award was won by Under 16s player Luke Condon, the Trevor Harrison towel was won by another youngster with a big future in Dom Giorgi and the Lowes Sox was won by the dasher Paul Reed.

This week's Player Profile is on hard running defender Grant Kelson.

Nicknames: Kelso, Cowboy; Favourite Pastime: Auctioneering, drinking rum with Bunny, driving fast utes, selling sheep, listening to Lee Kernaghan; Favourite Venue: Griffith Saleyards; Favourite Song: Grandma's Featherbed; Likes: Playing injured, Mrs Bunn scones and cream, big belt buckles, wrangler shirts; Dislikes: Elders people; Ambition in Life: To be as fast as Myles Bunn, as smooth as Mark Cameron and as sweet as Matthew Bunn; Most Memorial Moment: Playing football with my stock and station idols Peter Steer and Scott Lord.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record June 20, 1999 - No.10

ON a very wet winters day and under difficult conditions the Griffith Swans were able to win all three grades comfortably (over Mangoplah), for the first time in 1999.

The Seniors started slowly but pulled away after quarter time to record a strong win and a vital four points. There were some encouraging signs and at the halfway mark of the season let's hope we can improve our on-field efforts in the second half of the year and upset some of the higher places' teams on the ladder. Awards were donated by Jack Trimbole at Griffith Autoscreen. So, remember, if you've got a crack see Jack. The Exies Dinner was won by young wingman Rodney "he's got the looks" Duncan with a top game, the Snuggle Inn award was won by coach Paul "Bugs" Eyles who showed outstanding wet weather skills, the McDonalds award was won by youngster Michael "not Matthew" Johns with a consistent four quarter effort, and the McNabb Fuel award was won by consistent defender Paul "Norm" Brasier who made several telling saves.

The Reserves finally cracked it for a win, and this was certainly enjoyed by all involved. With a little more commitment towards training I am sure there will be a few wins in the second half of the season. Thanks to Rosco (Elliott) and Sheeds (Wade) for the after-match BBQ and beers, it was really appreciated by the players. The Players' Player Mug and Billabong Bottleshop award was won by the nuggerty on-baller Tony "the silent assassin" Butcher, the McDonalds award was won by the classy half forward Michael Duncan who backed up after a game in the Under 18s, and the Griffith Laundry Service award was won by bigman David "Mr. T" Sheather with a top effort in the ruck.

The Under 18's bounced back to the winners list with a resounding win keeping the opposition to one-point for the day. A top win for the guys and now they must concentrate on securing a top three spot in the finals. The awards were the C & P Express JDs Pizza was won by tough little man Ben Ford with a top effort in suitable conditions, the McDonalds award to the consistent Stephen Mitchell, and the Lowes Socks went to Ben Leach with a much-improved effort.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record June 26, 1999 - No.11

AFTER an extremely slow start (against East Wagga-Kooringal), the Seniors fought back into the game eventually to hold the lead at 3/4 time. Unfortunately made the most of their opportunities a little better than us, but it was terrific to see the us never gave in and continued to keep fighting back in the final term when the game looked over. Our starts seem to be the problem every week and we cannot continue giving away leads to opposition teams at quarter time an expect to win.

The awards were sponsored by the Swans Past Players Club, and we thank them for that. The Exies Dinner was won by the trendy defender Shayne "I have finally found the woman for me" Driscoll with a solid game in defence, the Snuggle Inn Towel was won by Captain/Coach Paul "The Magician" Eyles with 8 goals, the McDonalds Voucher was won by the ever-reliable Paul "The gym junkie" Brasier in defence, and the McNabb Fuel Voucher was won by youngster Shane "Chopper" Russell with a top game at centre half back.
The Reserves played a four solid quarters of football and ran out winners in a close finish against a top five team. It was a top effort and the improvement in attitude off the field was certainly on the field. The Players' Player Mug and Billabong Bottle Shop was won by the surprise ruckman Simon "I am not an animal" Spiers with a top game, the McDonalds Award was won by the ever reliable on baller Tony "The Machine" Butcher with a first-class effort in the centre, and the Griffith Laundry Service Award was won by the hard running backman David "Cracker" Dunn with a good display.
The Under 18s again had another solid win and continue their push for an end of season top three finish. The C & P Express JDs Pizza was won by big man Rick Frkovic with a top game, the McDonalds was won by under 16 player Jamie Kite, and the Lowes Socks were won by little man Ben Ford who has been consistent after returning from injury.
On the social scene thanks to those who attended, donated and purchased goods at the Dutch Auction. All players and supporters are invited to the Cocktail Party and Horse Racing Evening at the Exies Sports Club tonight. $5 (under 18 free) entry includes gambling money. A variety of cocktails will be available from the bar. Plenty of prizes to be auctioned at the end of the night so let's all make the effort to get back to the club tonight and have a top evening.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record July 4, 1999 - No.12

THE Seniors recorded a hard fought 27-point victory over the finals aspirant Temora. It is the first time we have won at Temora and we certainly done it in fine style with a real even team effort. There were 20 contributors on the day in a good, hard  game of football and it was a pleasure to watch.
The Awards in the Seniors were sponsored by Wade Transport and Martin Webb with Wickham Hill Packaging. They would have been difficult to give in such an even team effort. The Exies Dinner was won by high flying coach Paul "The Freak" Eyles up forward with some top grabs and six goals, the Snuggle Inn Towel was won by on baller Corey "I am not an animal" Frater for a 100% effort game, the Warren Lowry Award was won by Phillip "The boy from the bush" Rowston for a great game in the middle, and the McNabb Caltex Fuel Voucher was won by a consistent Damien "Tom Jones" Scott for a solid display on the last line of defence.
The Reserves struggled with numbers relying on several under 18s  to get a team together and were soundly defeated. Many thanks to those under 18s who backed up and had to carry those players who decided against making the trip to Temora. The Billabong Bottle Shop Award was won by an on baller Matthew "Joe Cool" Bunn who never stopped trying, the Warren Lowry Award was won by backman Grant "The man with the golden tones" Kelson with another solid display and the Griffith Laundry Service Award was won by under 18 player Luke "The Whippet" Jasprizza who provided some spark across the half forward line.
The under 18s again put together four good quarters of football and ran out big winners. The C & P Express JDs Pizza was won by rugby league convert Kurt Webb with a good game, the Trevor Harrison Towel was won by strong man Stan Gash with a rugged game in defence, and the Lowes Socks went to clever on baller Michael Duncan with yet another top game.
The Cocktail Night was a terrific evening enjoyed by all. Thanks to those who organised the night and many thanks to those sponsors who donated goods. I dare say it was certainly the most expensive keg of beer ever purchased.
On the social scene please do not forget about the Trivia Night on Thursday 15th July. Everyone is welcome. $5 per person and tables of 10 at the Exies Sports Club. See Kelly Ruyg for details and bookings.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record July 11, 1999 - No.13

A good day for the Club with all three grades winning (against Narrandera).

The Seniors started slowly again and kicked poorly early not making the most of their chances. After being behind at half time the guys played a terrific third quarter kicking seven goals to none to open a substantial three-quarter time lead. We were certainly challenged in the final term but to our credit they withstood the challenge and went on to record a top win in what was at times a very willing and physical game.

The awards were sponsored by Fred Cole, and we thank them for that. The Exies Dinner was won by dashing defender Daniel "Hi Ho Silver" Tuohey with a top game in the last line of defence, the Snuggle Inn award was won by on-baller Mark "The Natural Way" Hildebrandt who picked up plenty of possessions, the McDonalds award was won by rugged backman Greg "The coaches dream" Dreyer for a solid four quarter effort, and the McNabb Caltex award was won by the long kicking Damien "Beam me up" Scott with another consistent in the backline.

The Reserves played poorly in the first half but certainly turned it around in the second half kicking seven goals to one to run out winners. The Billabong award and Players' Player Mug was won by speedy on-baller Matthew "The Geelong Flyer" Bunn with a four-quarter effort, the McDonalds award was won by wiry backman Luke "Ring me a taxi" Irons with a disciplined game in defence, and the Griffith Laundry Service was won by stout defender Nathan "Smiley" Flint for a top effort.

The Under 18's had another top win despite being pushed early by a strong opposition. Keep up the good work boys. The C & P Express JDs Pizza award was won by the little back pocket dynamo Matt Flagg with a top game, the McDonalds award was won by the much-improved forward Paul McCormack with a consistent performance, and the Lowes award was won by ruckman Jeff Harris returning after a stint in the Seniors.

Do not forget about the Trivia Night next Thursday at the Exies Sports Club, $5 per person and tables of 10. See Leanne or Kelly for bookings. Tickets are now available for the $1000 reverse draw on August 15.

A reminder that tonight after the game all players and supporters are welcome back to the Exies Sports Club where meals are available.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record July 25, 1999 - No.14

THE less said about the latest Seniors effort (against Leeton-Whitton) the better. After a couple of top wins, we certainly decided to have a shocker. At least we now have the opportunity to redeem ourselves this week and return to the winners list. It will certainly require a much improved and committed effort by us all to achieve this. The opportunity to redeem ourselves is there, the desire to do so is now up to each player.

The awards were sponsored by Elders Pastoral and we thank them for that. The Exies Dinner was won by Phil "Rowdy" Rowston who picked up possessions at will, the Snuggle Inn towel was won by Myles "Snake Skin Shoes" Bunn, who never stopped trying, the Warren Lowry award was won by forward turned defender Shane "I'm hearing ya" Ruyg who did his best to stem the tide after half time, and the McNabb Caltex Fuel award was won by Matthew "off tap" Kenny.

The 2nds despite struggling for numbers were defeated but were certainly still in the game up until the final ten minutes. Thanks to those Under 18's who backed up, your efforts are certainly appreciated. The Billabong Bottle Shop award was won by midfielder Mick "The Flying Dutchman" Clayden who racked up possessions all day, the Warren Lowry award was won by the evergreen Owen Brown who made a welcome return, and the Griffith Laundry Service voucher was won by the much-improved defender Luke Irons with another consistent game in defence.

The Under 18's started well with a six goal first term, being challenged in the second term. The boys steady after half time and ran out winners in a good game of football. The C & P Express JDs Pizza award was won by defender Jake Maguire with a top game, the Trevor Harrison towel was won by wingman Matthew Edwards who picked up heaps of possessions, and the Lowes Socks were won by U16s player Daniel Best with another top effort up forward.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record August 1, 1999 - No.15

ON a top day for football, we again struggled over at Ganmain, with the only shining light being the continued success of our Under 18s. The Seniors battled hard but made too many skill errors, turning the football over and giving the opposition chances to score. The Senior's award was donated by George Duncan Electrics, and we thank them for that. The Exies Dinner for Two was won by high flying utility Matthew "Bad to the Bone" Kenny with a good effort, the Snuggle Inn towel was won by ruckman David "Bangers" Dunn who never stopped trying all day, the Warren Lowry award was won by skilful wingman Rodney "Rocket" Duncan who was a strong contributor, and the McNabb Fuel award was won by hard tacking on-baller Tony "Mr Unassuming" Butcher who battled hard against the odds.

The Reserves battled hard but struggled to convert their opportunities. They were again undermanned and thanks again to those U18s who backed up. The Players' Player Mug and Billabong Bottle Shop award was won by backman Glenn "I make Matt Kenny look like Arnold Schwarznegger" Welch with a good running display out of defence, the Warren Lowry voucher was won by enigmatic defender Dominic "Joe Cool" Skehan who was steady all day in the last line of defence, and the Griffith Laundry Service voucher was won by the diminutive wingman Dom "The Freak" Sergi who was outstanding before being injured.

The Under 18s battled hard for numbers again but had another top win. Keep the effort up boys and make sure you give yourselves the best opportunity to get the double chance in the finals. The C & P Griffith Express JDs Pizza award was won by Under 16 player Luke Condon with a fine four quarter display, the Trevor Harrison towel was won by the on-baller Michael Duncan with 8 goals, and the Socks award were won by illusive forward Gary Minchin.

Do not forget about the $1000 reverse draw at the Exies Sports Club on Sunday August 15. Tickets are $20 per person which includes food and drink. See Roy Agresta for tickets.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record August 8, 1999 - No.16

THE Club was saddened to hear the news this week of the passing of the longtime supporter Ronnie Williams. Mrs. Williams has been an ardent supporter of the Club since 1947, through the good times and the bad and she will be long remembered by the many people she was known to in her support of the Club. We at the Club offer our sincere condolences to the Williams family on the passing of Mrs Ronnie Williams.

The committee of the Griffith Swans also wish to offer our sincerest condolences to the Wood family on the death last week of their daughter and longtime Griffith Swans supporter Nancy, and to the Files family on the death of Margo's father last week. Our sincere condolences go out to both families at this sad time.
On the football and in the Seniors a second quarter lapse saw Coolamon run away with the game by half time. Despite never giving in we were convincingly defeated. It is time to dig deep and recover some lost pride in the next three games starting today.
Last week's awards were sponsored by JK Signs, and we thank them (John Kupsch) for that. In the Seniors the Exies Dinner was won by on baller Phillip "The Voice" Rowston with another four quarter effort against the odds, the Snuggle Inn Towel was won by backman Damien "The Warhorse" Scott who defended stoutly despite being under extreme pressure all day, the McDonalds Voucher was won by youngster Luke "Punter" Jasprizza with a good effort on the wing, and the McNabb Fuel Voucher was won by running player Myles "Bundy On" Bunn who never stopped trying. The Players' Player Mug was won by hard running defender Shane "The Goose" Ruyg who made many clearing dashes from defence.
The Reserves after a good first half were convincingly outplayed in the third quarter to be well down at the final change. The players never gave up and fought the game out well. The McDonalds Award was won by on baller Corey "The Junkyard dog" Frater with a four-quarter effort, and the Griffith Laundry Service Voucher was won by rover Nick "The Desperado" Donnellon who won plenty of possessions.
The Under 18s continued on their way getting the points again despite having to struggle early. The C & P Express JDs Pizza Award was won by forward Scott Rawle who kicked seven goals, the McDonalds Award was won by Under 16 player Leigh Owen who was consistent all day, and the Lowes Socks were won by enigmatic forward Gary Minchin who is running into top form.
Do not forget about the $1000 reverse draw on Sunday 15th August. $20 per person includes food and drink. Also, the Mystery bus trip after the Mangoplah Cookardinia United-Easlakes game. Please ring Kelly Ruyg for bookings. Tonight, we are going back to the Exies Sports Club after the game for a meal and drinks and all players and supporters are welcome.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record August 14, 1999 - No.18

THE game started off poorly with the pre-game withdrawal of three senior players from the selected team. Despite this the guys battled hard in difficult conditions but were not good enough. It was certainly an improved effort under the difficult circumstances and let's continue that improvement tonight under lights.

The awards in the Seniors were sponsored by Les Wildsmith. The Exies Dinner was won by miserly contender Daniel "Motley" Tuohey who was outstanding all day, the Snuggle Inn towel was won by the on-baller Tony "The Silent Assassin" Butcher who never gave up, the Warren Lowry voucher was won by dashing defender Damien "The Wily defender" Scott who repelled many Turvey Park attacking moves, and the McNabb award was won by hard running utility Myles "the boy from Goolgowi" Bunn.

The Reserve Grade played with 15 and certainly were not disgraced in difficult circumstances. Thank you to those Under 18s who backed up to make up the 15, and to all those guys who made the effort to travel. The Players' Player Mug and Billabong Bottle Shop award was won by utility Dean "Denzi" Jamieson who was at the bottom of every pack all day. The Warren Lowry voucher was won by the robust defender Scott "Plugger" Collis who worked hard, and the Griffith Laundry Service award was won by backman Justin "Dirty" Barry who was solid in defence.

The shining light of the day was the come from behind win by the Under 18's who got the four points by the slenderest of margins after a titanic struggle. It was a top effort in the conditions and a real gutsy display. Well done boys, keep up the good work today and we might just grab top spot at the business end of the season. The C & P Express JDs Pizza award was won by Under 16's midfielder Dom Giorgi with a top game, the Trevor Harrison towel was won by another Under 16's player in Luke Condon who was also terrific, and the Lowes Socks were won by ruckman Scott Rawle.

We welcome everyone tonight to the Exies Sports Club after the game for an ale or two and a bit of a bop. Do not forget about the $1000 reverse draw on Sunday. $20 per ticket includes food and drink from 2 pm at the Exies Sports Club. Anyone interested in going on the Mystery Bus Trip after the (Mango) game please ring Kelly Ruyg today.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record August 22, 1999 - No.19

FIRST of all, thank you to the Wagga Tigers committee for allowing the U18 game to be played under lights last Saturday. I am sure everyone at the ground enjoyed the game between these two top sides.
In the Seniors our guys stared well and were very competitive up till 3/4 time, with inaccuracy being the major downfall. Unfortunately, we were unable to sustain our effort in the final term and Tigers ran away for a comfortable victory. The awards were sponsored by Vaccari's Bakery, and we thank them for that. The Exies Dinner for two went to defender Shane "The Gobbler" Ruyg with another display on half back, the Snuggle Inn Award was won by hard working midfielder Damien "Superboot" Scott who picked up plenty of possessions, the McDonalds Award was won by on baller Phil "Rowdy" Rowston who never gave up, and the McNabb Fuel Award was won by ruckman David "Bang Bang" Dunn who gives 100%. The Players' Player Mug was won by utility Rodney "Tiger Woods" Duncan who was a fine contributor.
The 2nds nearly caused an upset but did not make the most of their chances in the final term. A top effort however and it showed what you can be achieved with a little commitment. The Billabong Bottle Shop and Players' Player Mug was won by youngster Kurt "Clark Kent" Webb with a fine game up forward, the McDonalds Award was won by resolute defender Glenn "The Mummy" Welch with another hard running effort, and the Griffith Laundry Service Award was won by cagey forward Colin "Buckets" Cassidy who worked hard all day. There were plenty of others who were also fine contributors on the day.
The 18s battled hard after starting slowly, but despite hitting the front in the second half could not sustain the effort to win. I am sure the guys can regroup and will bounce back in the finals. The C & P Express JDs Pizza Award was won by Under 16 player Leigh Owen who won plenty of possessions, the McDonalds Award was won by backman Stephen Mitchell with a disciplined effort, and the Lowes Socks were won by Kane Bannam who proved a target up front.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors and supporters, and our hard-working band of people who keep the club running from week to week. Your efforts in what has been a difficult 1999 season are appreciated. On the social season scene please do not forget about our Presentation Night on 7 October at the Ex-Servicemen's Club. Tickets will be available soon.
Good luck to George Duncan and the U16s today in the SWDJFL grand final in their quest for back-to-back premierships. Also please do not forget about our U18s in their finals campaign starting next week. Let's make sure we support the boys both at training and on match day.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record August 29, 1999 - No.20

FINALLY, a victory for the Seniors, although a very hard earned one after jumping Mango early. The awards were sponsored by Bob and Brenda Spears, and we thank them for that. The Exies Dinner & Players' Player Mug to bustling midfielder Phillip Rowston who won plenty of the ball in the clinches, the Snuggle Inn Towel was won by Shane Ruyg with 7 goals, the Warren Lowry Award was won by the hard running rover Tony Butcher, and the McNabb Caltex Award was won by wingman Damien Scott with a fine effort. Others good performers were Rodney Duncan and David Dunn.

The Reserves finished the season with a loss, and although they never gave up, they were outplayed by a much-improved opposition. The Billabong Bottle Shop & Players' Player Mug to U18 player Paul Kite with a top effort in defence, the McDonalds Award was won by Luke Irons who also had a strong game in defence, and the Griffith Laundry Service Award was won by midfielder Dean Jamieson with another hard running performance.

Thanks to all the Seniors and Reserves grade footballers for their efforts in 1999 in what a difficult year was. I am sure we will turn it around next year so make sure we stick together, starting with getting behind the U18s in their finals campaign today.

They warmed up for the finals with another good win. Keep up the good work guys. The C & P Express JDs Pizza Award was won by forward Ben Ford with a top effort, the McDonalds Award was won by big man Stephen Mitchell, and the Lowes Socks were won by Matthew Edwards who picked up plenty of possessions. Good luck Adrian Pavese and all the 18s.

Congratulations goes to George Duncan and the U16s on defeating Narrandera to win the SWDJFL Premiership. Please do not forget about the 1999 Presentation Night on Friday 8 October at the Ex-Servicemen's Club. Tickets will be available soon.

SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record September 19, 1999 - No.23

FIRSTLY, thank you to the RFL executives who made the commonsense decision to delay the start of the second semi due to the breakdown of the Griffith player's bus. Whilst we apologise for the inconvenience caused, we are grateful for the opportunity that the league gave us, culminating in a spot in the grand final today.
A terrific effort by the U18s in the second semi after a disastrous start to the day, and the players must be congratulated on the mature manner in which they handled the difficult situation. A good first half set up what was a tremendous win. Best players were defenders Simon McClure who handled the difficult conditions like a veteran, big man Jeff Harris, onballer Michael Duncan, rover Dominic Giorgi and forward Scott Rawle, in a tremendous overall team effort.
Best of luck to all the boys today and let's hope you can make the most of the opportunity you have given yourselves. It has been a tremendous effort by the boys under what has been at times difficult circumstances and all at the club are with you in your endeavours today.
To our coaches in 1999, Paul Eyles, Phillip Rowston, Mark Hildebrandt and Adrian Pavese we thank each of you for your patience under trying conditions this year. Today is another step in the rebuilding process for the club. To the players that showed loyalty this season the club thanks you for that and we hope we can reward you for that.
Finally, the club would like to thank all our sponsors, Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club, McDonalds Griffith, WIN Television, and Austar Entertainment for the support. Also, our match sponsors we thank you for your weekly support. To all our workers and supporters, we thank you. Today is the finale and the 18s will continue to do the club proud and hopefully they will come home with the premiership.
On the social scene, the presentation night on Friday 8 October, comedian Phil Cass from the "Footy Show", and "The Midday Show", and the $1000 reverse draw on Sunday 17 October.
