SWANS CLUB NOTES: Riverina Football Record August 22, 1999 - No.19

FIRST of all, thank you to the Wagga Tigers committee for allowing the U18 game to be played under lights last Saturday. I am sure everyone at the ground enjoyed the game between these two top sides.
In the Seniors our guys stared well and were very competitive up till 3/4 time, with inaccuracy being the major downfall. Unfortunately, we were unable to sustain our effort in the final term and Tigers ran away for a comfortable victory. The awards were sponsored by Vaccari's Bakery, and we thank them for that. The Exies Dinner for two went to defender Shane "The Gobbler" Ruyg with another display on half back, the Snuggle Inn Award was won by hard working midfielder Damien "Superboot" Scott who picked up plenty of possessions, the McDonalds Award was won by on baller Phil "Rowdy" Rowston who never gave up, and the McNabb Fuel Award was won by ruckman David "Bang Bang" Dunn who gives 100%. The Players' Player Mug was won by utility Rodney "Tiger Woods" Duncan who was a fine contributor.
The 2nds nearly caused an upset but did not make the most of their chances in the final term. A top effort however and it showed what you can be achieved with a little commitment. The Billabong Bottle Shop and Players' Player Mug was won by youngster Kurt "Clark Kent" Webb with a fine game up forward, the McDonalds Award was won by resolute defender Glenn "The Mummy" Welch with another hard running effort, and the Griffith Laundry Service Award was won by cagey forward Colin "Buckets" Cassidy who worked hard all day. There were plenty of others who were also fine contributors on the day.
The 18s battled hard after starting slowly, but despite hitting the front in the second half could not sustain the effort to win. I am sure the guys can regroup and will bounce back in the finals. The C & P Express JDs Pizza Award was won by Under 16 player Leigh Owen who won plenty of possessions, the McDonalds Award was won by backman Stephen Mitchell with a disciplined effort, and the Lowes Socks were won by Kane Bannam who proved a target up front.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors and supporters, and our hard-working band of people who keep the club running from week to week. Your efforts in what has been a difficult 1999 season are appreciated. On the social season scene please do not forget about our Presentation Night on 7 October at the Ex-Servicemen's Club. Tickets will be available soon.
Good luck to George Duncan and the U16s today in the SWDJFL grand final in their quest for back-to-back premierships. Also please do not forget about our U18s in their finals campaign starting next week. Let's make sure we support the boys both at training and on match day.
